At some point prior to my acquisition of the '69, it was wrecked on the passenger side front fender. Whoever did the bodywork did a fantastic job on the outer fender, but set a new "bubba standard" on the inner fenderwell. Apparently there was a large crack/tear in the fenderwell, so they just slapped some fiberglass over it and left it. No sanding, no filler.
Keeping in mind that this is not an NCRS car, or even a "show car" for that matter, I did want to at least clean it up so it's presentable for a driver. I smoothed out the ugly area with bondo (pretty thin), and am in the process of sanding it to blend it in with the rest of the fender. So far it looks good. I'll try to get some pics this evening.
Sweet! You have to be thrilled with that discovery! How are the various rebuilds going with your Vette? Are we going to see it this year?
I've known about it since I got the car. I just couldn't bring myself to put the engine back in without fixing this first. It's really ugly.
I plan to be on the road by March 1. The front end is rebuilt, the engine is rebuilt (mostly), I have a new carb coming, the tranny is resealed, and the heater core is new. I should be dropping in the engine and trans sometime in the next two weeks. then it's a bunch of small stuff, like the exhaust, and getting it all ready for start up.
I'm right there with you on the rebuild buddy, My 73's got a new 4 bolt LT1 type engine installed and all the metal is proportionate. I still gotta glue on the one piece front end..Kind of daunting. I'm hoping for "Corvette summer" though! Keepin At it!
