Value of a 70 LT1 vert
Where would you put the price on a 70 LT1 vert with a nom block? Some documentation showing 3 previous owners and right top end. Needs paint but is roadworthy with rebuilt mechanicals and suspension. Frame and bird cage appears solid.
Yes, I know you need more info and pics but I am looking for a range. Does $15k-$20k sound right?

I think $15 to $20K sounds right. You'll get a lot of different opinions about how the NOM effects value. That's the problem with NOM. Some will say that without the original motor the car is worth no more than any other NOM. I put more value to a car that was produced as an LT-1 but just doesn't have the original motor. How much more? It depends on the certainty that the car is an LT-1 and how close to correct it is.

Does the documentation prove it was originally an LT-1? Agree that you'll probably receive a broad range of opinions on value. Personally, I would value it as a 70 vert with standard engine based on condition, then add a few thousand or so if it can be proven to originally be an LT-1 and comes with the other LT-1 parts. JMO and $0.02.

An LT-1 without the LT-1 is not an LT-1. It was once, but not now.

I asked for opinions and thank you for them! My view - while I agree it is no longer a complete LT1 it is hard for me to agree because the block has been changed it has no value over a "regular" vet. The car has the original metal plate showing options as well as a history of the owners and original bill of sale. Yes I know these can faked but I don't think someone would bother and then sell it as a nom (block) for under $20k.
Thanks again for your thoughts and I welcome more.

Another thing to consider is that you might want to sell it sometime in future and most(?) buyers are probably going to devalue it over the NOM thing. Just a thought....

I agree completely that it has significantly less value then a numbers maching block, this is much more so on a LT1 then a regular vet.
I am looking to buy and that is why I am saying $15-$20k for a 70 LT1vert which is not much more (but a little) then a "regular" 70 vert.
Interesting discussion but what do you think it is worth - how many $$?

Needs paint but is road worthy! hmmm. How many miles? NOM- 4 speed or auto? 15k-20k max if it is a 4 speed convert in respectable condition that includes the interior. Don't pay 20k for some heep because it is or was a LT1. Also remember it was the top end that made the LT1 a LT1. and as much as it sucks that the numbers don't match, if the HP is there let'er rip.

Not sure what you mean about "needs paint but roadworthy, hmmm"? Many cars I have seen need paint but can be driven fine. Paint is a $5k expense I deduct from the price I would pay, and yes I can get very good paint done for $5k.
The engine was rebuilt a short while ago and has a few hundered miles -supposed to be all LT1 top end - heads, manifold, carb and ignition. I noticed a price listing on a previous post and it puts the value for a 70 vert in average condition at $25.9k and one "needs TLC" at $15k then you add in $10k for the LT1. I was taking the lowest price of $15k and throwing in $2,500 for the LT1 stuff. I may be really off but I do not see many original LT1 hoods and/or top end engine components going for cheap.
Again thanks for the opinions - they have helped me do other research. Based on what I have been reading here and other posts it appears any 70 vert in good drivable condition with everything in average condition is worth 15k all day.
If anyone has any vert in average condition -68-72 they will sell for $15 - $20k I have cash and I am buying. - (Less $ if it needs paint)

You seem to be focusing on this fasination of the LT1. The other guy, Easy Mike is correct, without the original engine its a Corvette....period. The articals written last winter about the next 100K car is like thinking our goofy government is going to police the Mexican border. Just buy a nice car and don't be hoodwinked by this load. I keep telling you guys to look at L79 and L46 cars. I wish I could get a good paint job for 5K. Sincerly, my usless opinion

I bought the car today after looking at it for a couple of hours on a lift. It is/was a southern car so I speant time checking the thing that is important to me - no rust on the frame or birdcage -I pulled the covers and checked out all of the body mounts as well as the windshield pillers and it checked out better then I had hoped. I brought the guy who does the paint with me and I was off a little - he said it would be closer to $6k for the paint and yes he does a very good job. Engine is as stated - rebuilt a couple hundered miles ago with only the top end left from the LT1 days. He has the metal plate showing it was a FL car along with a couple of folders of receipts including almost $4k for the motor work (something most of us C3 owners seem to have).
Anyway I am a very happy owner of a 70 vert! Oh, I paid $13k.

Thanks, it goes in for paint tomorrow.
A kinda weird thing is the car has 35k on the odometer and in looking through the documentation it appears original - at least no receipts over that. When I asked the seller he said that he believed it to be acurate and I have the names of the other two owners so I may give them a call. I have the listing when the previous person sold it and it was advertised as having 32k miles with two owners.
I know I may get flamed for "caring" if the milage is that low but whatever I just think it's interesting. I didn't pay anything over as I thought the milage must have been 135k but it appeared to be in very good shape for a car in the north east.
Haven't made up my mind yet on the color but I guess I need to get to that!!

Good Deal. Hope it is all you want it to be. Let'er rip. I would suggest tom paint it to the original paint codes if at all possable. the return on the investment will be greater on down the road. Have fun and Congrats!

If I was talking to the other owners I would ask about the block...if you have a CE block in the car it will not hurt the cars value as much.
If it was mine and I could not find the original block I would find a correct replacement, maybe even restamp it,not to fool anyone but just to get the car as close to right as I could.
