That is a great question as 99% of black 69's for sale have repo trim tags. I have pictures of over 1000 trim tags on early C3's and about the same number of engine pads and tank stickers. I also have a database of 900 Tuxedo Black 68 and 69's. Call me a nerd, but I love the history of these cars and mostly collect original Black 69 cars. It is really easy to spot a fake trim tag as they all lack the characteristics of typical factory production trim tags that were applied at the St. Louis factory. This car 100% has the original factory trim tag and matches the characteristics of other 900 code tuxedo black cars built in that month as well as it has been verified by a notable C3 NCRS judge. BTW it is a February car and all Feb built cars have a G for the build date but the stamp tool used that month did not cleanly stamp the G and it is a tele tale sign it is an original trim tag along with other notable charteristics. Also by looking at other engine sampling samples you can validate original engine stamps versus re-stamps, so you can verify originality without paperwork.

The timeless look of Rallyes ,love it
Would be hard not to drive that beauty every single day.
Is that a Javelin in the driveway?

A data base of black February cars....
you are a nerd!
Interesting information concerning the February tags. I feel like I can spot most pad restamps but have no knowledge or eye for a bogus trim tag.... I never took the time to educate myself about them as I’ve never really considered a mid year. Side pipe 69 coupes are really my thing and realistically I can’t see anyone screwing with a tag on a 69 except for switching it to “900”.
As always vintage pics are cool and the car appears beautiful. GLWS

I have also seen some “basic” cars with fake trim tags. I guess the desire to have a matching car is a strong one!!! Some of them were from a long time dealer!!
There are some great threads on the forum about how to spot a fake trim tag. Ike

Well Marshall, my accountant (wife) says that she would budget me $10 a month towards the Vette. So if my math is correct it will take 500 years to pay it off. HMMM???? What to do???? I wonder how old DKM is?
On a serious note, for me the stable is full and the wallet is empty!!!
But for someone, this is a beautiful and rare car from a great and knowledgeable seller and great forum member. DKM has reached out and helped me and others many times. Someone who is looking should jump on this one!!! Ike

For the record, my code 900 ‘69 sold this year for a number most would consider very strong. It was a very nice car, but I believe the real code 900 continues to be a significant value enhancement for 1969.
This is a blue chip car.

Beautiful car......I'm in awe!
What does the 900 code relate to? Sorry, I just don't know....
My cousin had a 69 back in 1972 that was black/black 427/390 4 speed coupe. It had an L-88 hood on it and chrome Hooker header/side pipes. He bought it for $2400.00 used and drove it for a year and sold it for the same. The insurance was killing him since he was 20 years old. I loved that car and I think I was the first person to wash it! It was like giving a hot, naked woman a bath! I always wanted one and finally got my 1976 C3 that another cousin owned before he passed away. It's not a chrome bumper big block manual car but it's as close as I''ll ever get!

Gorgeous! I've always had a thing for black vettes. Had a friend in the senior year of high school whose parents were rich folks who bought their son a '67 triple black 427 435 horse, side pipes, alloys as a senior year graduation gift. I've been in love with black vettes ever since. Your '69 is beautiful and good luck with your sale. Someone will be getting a beauty!!

I don't publicly share the database but I have shared information with NCRS judges that also keep a database of C2 and C3 trim tags, engine stamp pads and paperwork. brad1955 if you have a car with info you want to send me then that would be great!
