Default Seeking Perfection?

how many here are looking to make their vette "perfect"? no drips, no leaks, great paint, perfect carpets, strong engine etc etc etc? i find that every time i see a small drip or hear an out of place squeek, i am hunting down the problem and figuring how many months i have to save $$$ to pay for the new parts.

i know that other car owners aren't this obsessive, but maybe we replace parts and do things before they really need to be done?

this all comes about because i see some wetness around the power steering pump and i got a dead spot (morning sickness) in the rack and some really bad squeeking from the suspension, so i figure its time to start replacing things.....again....

Default .......everything should work....

...my feelings are that everything should work, especially from a safety standpoint, and just because when i get ready for a drive, i do not want to have to worry about a breakdown. so the 94 coupe i bought last march is still getting worked on. by summer i will be very close to the end of all the write ups that i had on it, and ready for a drive across the country. for me, it is a good feeling to have a machine that flies or drives well. it becomes part of the enjoyment of getting out on a vacation in it....

I try to fix things as I find them, but the more I dig, the more there is to fix, and perfection keeps getting farther away . IMHO its a "Grail Castle." You can always search for it, but time and money take their toll on the achievement.

i agree, making perfection one's goal with these things is asking for trouble. you'll never get there, and if you do it'll last maybe 1 day.

for me, its everything in good working order (which is reasonable)........esthetics is at least good condition (interior, exterior)............but must have a jacked-up strong engine (a requirement).

I'm happy if mine will do what it's supposed to do. Everything working so I can use it when I'm ready to. The little things like rattles and squeaks I don't pay much attention to, those are inherent. I just have a good time driving mine.

I'm with you, I bought the car for a summer toy so I have lots of time to mess with it with the ohio winters.Might as well make it as nice as I can.

Mine are toys.. so making them perfect is a hobby for me.

It gives me a lot of oportunity to;

Go places.... looking for parts
Meet people.... what parts you got?
Get excercise... over, under, around and through my Vette.
Bust knuckles and turn wrenches.... great fun
Go more places... looking at Vettes, wanting more
Buy tools.... gotta have'em to make my Vette perfect
Buy toys for my Vette... it NEEDS whatever it ain't got.
Dream... about that killer engine for my Vette
Collect Vette parts & junk... too much is not enough

I LOVE this hobby!!!!!!!

EDIT:
Hey! I just thought of something...
All the rest of you guys doing this are running the price of stuff I need for my Vette up!!! Ya'll STOP it now.

i guess i am one of the odd ones on the forum. i was looking for the best and nicest corvette i could afford because i hate to work on anything. so mine is fairly close cosmetic and mechanically perfect. i can't stand even changing the oil. not a wrench and tool guy. i'm old and i don't want to learn.

I can relate, I'm extremely **** about everything working the way the factory intended it to. Right now my PKE doesn't work, drivers door panel is somewhat loose at the top, drivers door hinge sags a bit, the dash has some funky warping going on, the acrylic top needs polished or replaced, the back carpet needs changed, and the weather stripping could be replaced. That's about it though. All minor things but they just bother the crap out of me and they ALL will get fixed this spring.

Somebody else could just drive this car and be totally happy and not even notice these things.

Default A little preplexed.....

I've only had my 96 LT1 about 2 months. The car was in great condition when I bought it, and still is. I generally check the board daily for fun, and to get info, etc. I'm some what amazed by the number of problems I read about. Its a Corvette, but its also a Chevrolet. Among the 27 cars I've owned since 1958, many have been chevy's and some have 350's. I know the CR is a tad high at 10.5/1, but what else has Chevy done to make these cars seem so fragile. Is it the car itself or the the way there driven, because there supposed to be performance cars? Mine has 58K on it and does leave an occasional oil drop on the garage floor. Might be the Mobil 1. I've been planning to take a trip to Victoria Texas in the spring, about 1300 miles. I'm starting to doubt whether to trust the vet. Just my thoughts.
