Frankenstein - Service engine soon
Then comes the monster. The service engine soon light comes on at about 60 mph and goes off. The traffic stops dead in its tracks. The car develops a stumbling idle. I manage to get off the freeway and the light comes back on and stays on for a while on the side streets. Idles like crap. Light then goes off.
I guess I am going spend my weekend reading codes and replacing parts.
First question, does the computer remember the code even if the light is off?
Second question, what's it sound like folks? My guess is O2 sensor.

Hey Smack123, what's with all the redundant and useless comic posts, you tryin to score free posting points or what!??? Get back in your Igloo!
Now down to your SeS:
I had similar problems with my '95 (66K miles), and yes, you can have codes thrown w/o SeS coming on, as they will get stored in memory until cleared. If you want to get your codes without going to Autozone or wherever, you can get the codes by shorting pin 4 and pin 12 with a bent paper clip, or small wire on your ALDL. With engine off, short these 2 pins together, then turn ignition to "on", but do not start engine. The codes will pop up where your fuel gauge is. The first code you will see is C12, which is not an error, this is only the start indicator, and error codes will follow. Codes will cycle through one by one, and when it is finished a C12 will appear again, and the error codes will cycle through again, so just write down the error codes you see between the first set of C12's, and turn ignition off, remove shorting wire from your ALDL. O2 sensor(s) could be your problem, they would show up as H-44 or H-45 for left O2 sensor; H-64 or H-65 for your right O2 sensor.
My problem turned out to be a bad TPS sensor, code thrown by PCM was H-22.
Your ALDL connector type would be the 16-pin type shown here:

And you can get codes for your '95 & engine type here:

good hunting! If you have problems understanding the codes, just post them on the Forum, and the experts will chime in....
