Default Rear Hatch Struts

Ordered new struts for the rear hatch late last week and they should be here Wed/Thur. Just wanted to ask if anyone had any tips or know of anything I should watch for before I go to install them? It looks pretty straight forward, but any advice to make the job easier would be greatly appreciated ~ thanks

The install is so straight forward, that there is no advice to give. I went with weak struts on the back hatch for a long time. After I installed new units, I kicked myself for not doing it earlier. The same is true with the hood booster struts. Worth every penny and then some

Use a 2x4 or something to prop the glass up while you swap the struts. Keeps your hands free, and the glass is on the heavier side of things.

Thanks, I was thinking about how I was going to hold the hatch up and I have nice piece 2X4 that should work just right.

Use the 2x4 and do one at a time. You can skip the 2x4 if you have a friend there to help.

Easy job. Use a small screwdriver to pop the metal clips outward, away from mount, and they just fall off.

best to have them in and fastened before you undo the thing holding them in the compressed position...

New struts, as well as a new hatch release, are in; took about 30 minutes for complete job, just enough time to start the 2nd beer. Thanks for the advice on the 2X4, worked like a charm and made it an even simpler job

You can also use a rope and tie the hatch to an overhead beam or garage door. Just remember to untie the rope before you drive off! And no, I am not speaking from experience.
