I have a friend looking at an 87 coupe auto with 130,000 the owner said the engine was tested and is working good, but my question is he had an updated body kit to a 96 and zr1 chrome wheels, how much would that depreciate the value, I looked up the book value and it was 5500, so my question is how much should he pay for it, oh yeah and it is purple with yellow racing stripes and it is beginning to crack and the interior seats aren't too hot under the seat covers, so what do you guys think?
Paint bad and Purple w/yellow!!! Seats are bad too !! These alone
could cost upto $5500.00. 130,00 mi. If it was me, I'd keep looking... There's alot of nice cars out there.. I just bought an ' 87 vert in Sept. w/49,000mi. for $8500.00 and it didn't need a thing..
Last year an '87 coupe was going for:
$12.4k, in excellent condition
$8.2k, in good condition
$4.9k, in fair condition
These values were up .6% from the prior year.
The main thing is to look the car over carefully, pay attention to paint condition (as this is the biggest $$ item), to interior condition and weather stripping as well as tires.
Then there are the usual items like fluid leaks, tranny shifting, engine performance, strange noises, chassis rust, etc.
If the paint is beginning to crack and interior needs to be replaced it may not be the car for your friend.

I think about $4000 if that is all that is wrong with it. If your friend likes the color combo, great.
The later body parts shouldn't hurt the value, but shouldn't increase it either.
Ugh! Offer him $1000 and put the poor thing out of it's misery!
I like that one, yeah he likes the looks of the 87 with the body and the chrome wheels already done, but he's also looking at an 84' with 82K for $6000, so i told him somewhere between 4k - 5k for the 87 and he's good for the 84 for the price he talked them down to, I guess we'll see, he's been itching for one since I got mine.
