antenna doesn't retract

antenna doesn't retract
My antenna does not go down. I hear the motor running, but it stays up. I tried to add some lubricant and it still doesn't retract. How can I tell if I only need the antenna and not the whole antenna assembly?

if you hear the motor running, chance are alll you need is a replacement mast kit (avail at GM parts). Comes with instr and is very easy to install. I had same problem, and the toothed 'tail' (can't think of proper term) was broken off.
For the new vette owner, it is one of the cheapest things you are going to have to fix.....lol
