Well, you know when you ask someone to be carefull? What happens? Thats right...You get two holes and a big dent in your vette.
I ordered new tires from the Tire Rack and took them to get mounted & balanced at Tire Kingdom. I probably looked like a maniac for how concerned I was as to how they would jack it up because at this same shop I had to tell them how to jack it up. So I even brought my 101 projects book to show them this time. He assured me it would be fine. Believe me when I tell you I made a big deal about this jacking up issue. Since he mentioned the pinch rails and jacking points so I was sure he knew what he was talking about. The problem was... he wasn't the one that worked on my car, but since he was the manager ultimately the responsibility was his. The guy had the "lift thingy" too far under the car and the poor fiberglass could not withstand the 3000lb load. Two holes in the floorpan and a dent in the tin later he called me and told me what had happened. I lost my temper because they didn't even look to see what kind of damage was done. they just said they heard some cracking and took it off the lift and told me they coulnd'nt put on my tires. I made them come outside and look at the damage. The manager agreed to pay for it. I took it to the bodyshop, got an estimate, took the estimate to Tire Kingdom, and made an appointment to get it fixed. Now I will be without my dd for about four days.
The estimate was 664.00
I had them go ahead and put on the tires, but this time I watched(closely). 0.00 dollars.
Killed my enjoyment of getting new rubber.
Thanks for lettng me vent
this burns me up when i hear these stories... then they get all bent because we try to explain to the so called professionals how to lift up a car. as if they know better than you. you can't blame all workers, but what happened to pride and a quality job.
It hurts, I know ... I've been there too. BUT at least in your case the guys were stand-up and called you and told you and offerrred to take care of it... in my case, they stayed silent ... I had to find the problem and then sweat it out until they agree to make good....
The pain will go away, but you will always remeber the problem when you are driving her... because she was violated and despite all your best efforts.... it happened....
Get this, the tech that always works on my car at the dealership I work for (he use to be a GM tech). I walked out and saw my car on the lift up in the air and the doors were closed. I shot like a cannon over there and opened the doors in mid air. I was quietly pissed.
Bummer...real bummer dude... Now I know why I have smashed up footwells under my car on passanger and driver side. Until I read this thread, I had no clue as to how the previous owner managed to incur this type of damage!!!
When I get the time, I will just do the fiberglass repair myself...but dang, why can't these tire shops get this right?? If there where only a hanfull of C4's in the US, then maybe I could understand their incomtetance, but there are hundreds of C4's in every city, so you would think these jamoks would know the proper method for lifting these things are the ground....Jeeeez!

Can you explain the rationality of opening the doors when the car is on a lift. I really don't know why you said it must be done. Is there some type of stress being put on the car when it's in the air and the doors are closed?
I would like to know what he's talking about as well.
I aways thought the doors should be shut ?? I heard if you leave the doors open you could crack your windshield because you lose the frame stucture. Am i wrong???
Thanks for your support everyone...
Just bad luck.
I'm happy again 'cause today I had the top off all day.
I love that feature, it's like a whole other car w/o the targa on.
When I had my 315's put on, I took the new wheels and tires down to the tire shop in the back of my other car. There was no way I was going to expose my car to those shop monkeys. Sorry for your troubles but at least they came clean up front.
Also, like the rest of the guys, I would like to know whats up with opening the doors when the car is on a lift.
Last time I let someone work on mine they called me to tell me that the parking brake was stuck. I explained how to release the brake and decided to go ahead and pick it up and do the work myself. When I arrived, they sent a guy around back, (wouldn't let me go get it), and he came around the building dragging the parking brake.
I feel for you man. Incompetence and stupity are running rampant and I've been trying to tell the world that. Unfortunately, not many listening
The world?? If your trying to communicate incomperence and stupidity to the "world" you have a huge undertaking. In my experience the a$$-holes are running the show. LOL

..............and did you hop on one foot and pat your head?
..............and did you hop on one foot and pat your head?
....................Im sorry but I couldnt help it.What the HELL does opening the doors have to do with anything?Ive been working on my car for 18 years and have never done any of this. But it does make sence to keep the doors CLOSED to keep the structure solid.
