I took my car to a Firestone once........once. The wheels almost fell off 15 minutes after I picked it up. Lug nuts were loose on all four wheels. Went and bought 3 ton floor jack and 4 jackstands.... Im not taken any chances with cracked floorboards and incompetent tire shops. Only give the bastards the wheels

"notherc4", if you could please explain why you said that, there are several of us who want to hear your rationale.
I've been to two different shops with my 93. One muffler, one tire. Each time, they open the hatch, the hood, the doors and loosen the roof. What this does is allows for the minor flexing that may occur when it gets raised. The first time I witnessed this I asked why, and the guy said FROM EXPERIENCE if everything is closed up, you can crack the car (or something to that effect) Apparently he learned the hard way and caused some major damage to a C4.

The only time you should crack your doors is when the car is being jacked up at different points. On a lift...no problem.

why is that everyone i have heard it from has said from "experience" has anyone actually seen a car cracked because of this or just because they listen to all these people with "experience"

i had my car on the lift with doors, open, closed, hood open, closed, hatch open, and closed, i dont understand the rationality that if you jack it from the proper points how you are stressing the car...i would think that you are putting less stress than if it was sitting on uneven ground as the jacking points are closer together than the tires are and should provide less leverage to flex the body

Speaking of Tire Kingdom. Last Saturday my mom took her 02 Camry into Tire Kingdom near her house to have the oil changed. Afterwards it went straight back to her house (1-1 1/2 miles), and didn't move again till she was goin to work Monday morning. At around 4 miles the oil light came on. By mile 5 or 6.......it was dead. The brainiacs at Tire Kingdom put the wrong oil filter on, and of course, all the oil leaked out and then.......... To their credit, the manager said it was their mistake, and they would take full responsiblility for the repairs. She told that she wanted it to go back to the dealer that she bought it from. The adjuster from Tire Kingdom's insurance company told my mom that it would be a "lightly used" or refurbished engine that hers would be replaced with. However, when my dad talked to the service manager at the dealership that has the car, he said that they DO NOT under ANY circumstances deal with used or remanufactured motors. So its gonna be real interesting to see how this plays out.

Sorry to hear about what happened to you car. Lifting these cars does require some extra steps. But for someone to position the car wrong on the lift, resulting in damage, is completely unacceptable. Atleast the manager took responsibility and the car will be repaired their expense. So now your in the same boat as my parents........ dealing with an insurance adjuster. Good luck, hope it comes home soon.

haha here we go again with the how to jack topic.
this always brings out a bunch of different methods and reasonings now doesnt it.
the last few times ive jacked my car up i just used a floor jack under the front jack point with everything closed up tight and jacked the whole side of the car at once.then put a token stand under it just in case but never let the car down on it.
seems to work fine and looks pretty cool

Default Very, very frustrating.

Almost every time, when we turn over control to a moron, bad things happen. Thats why we don't go to dealerships but for a different reason. Sorry you have to go through this. I just purchased two tires on Friday. Can hardly wait to have them mounted, you just scared the hell out of me.

I wish I had a garage. I don't like the idea of leaving my vette on 4 jackstands in the parking lot of my townhome complex. I'm sure it would be fine, just would make me nervous, but after this episode w/ Tire Kingdom I think I might do it for future projects.
