AH, but they do, its called Electrochormatic tint. Apply an electric field to the glass, and it tints.

Apparently Mercedes already has this on their Limos, and Lexus has it on one of their concept cars. The 2005 Ferrari Superamerica has a electrochromatic top on it too, but it failed to work in front of its first demonstration to the public (hehe).

Cool stuff comes out all the time, just some of it takes a while to get into the market cheaply. Take OLED's for example, 2 years ago no one ever heard of it, now 1/5 of all cell phones use it for color screens.

Default I have a tinted, White 1996..

Its a great look on a white vette and in South Florida its a must. It reduces the inside temps over 25 degrees.

I understand what you mean. I usually roll my window down at an intersection so that people can see that I am looking in their direction. I like the tinting though because it helps protect the carpet, dash, and seats from fading/cracking. I love the limo tint on the back. Lots of privacy (besides the pull shade) for items that I might put back there.

I dont like tint because if you tint your windows, I cannot make eye contact and see if you are looking in my direction when you are pulling up to an intersection.

I went with Limo all the way around. I think it is better looking for black Vettes and it keeps the car cool and helps the interior keep it's orginal color.

I have an all Black 87. The previous owner had the Rear Hatch tinted back in 96 by LLumar . It is still in excellent shape, no bubbles, peels or anything. I am not planning on tinting the side windows though.
Depends on where you live......Florida....I'd say go for it. Just check with your DMV for any tint percentage limitations. Sometimes having dark tinted windows all around obstructing anyone from seeing inside
attracts shall we say...the long arm of the law, so definately check your state laws first.

My car has the full tint and at night in the rain (average rain fall 73 inches) I can't see to back up at all. But in sun its great. Illegal but cool!

Im pretty sure its legal here in Missouri, but im not gonna worry about it because im thinking that i dont want the sides as dark as the back. I want the back one real dark so when i have my white top tucked in the back you wont be able to see it. Thanks for the replies so far, it nice to hear some different opinions.

It is legal in MO, but your side windows can only be (legally) I think 35%. Check with a tint shop they can tell you. I too am thinking about doing mine and was considering limo on the hatch but as indicated above by Redwing76, it could be detrimental at night, especially when backing up. Sooo......
I am rethinking that one.

Sorry it took so long responding. I was out of town for a few days. I don't have a problem seeing out the window at night, but it is definitely harder to see though it at nightime.

The film can be removed without destroying the rear grid, but I'd leave it to the pros. When I will have mine removed, it will be done at a window tint shop. I don't want to take a chance at destroying my defroster.

I wonder how long it'll take to make its way down from the luxury/exotic car market. ........ Interesting....
