Default window/door alignment???

i need help. my windows don't match up to the weatherstripping so can someone describe the process or lead me to a source that says more than adjust door and window(my shop manual) i need to get driving bad because the yamaha can't haul me around in the rain and the tarp is getting sun faded.

any help would be much appreciated

It really can't be explained how to align your door but I can offer some things to look for first before you go off and try to align things with worn parts.

Check your hinges for play first. Open the door a bit and see if you can lift up and down on the latch side of the door and feel play. There should be none!

If there's play there you need new hinges or repair them yourself. See my hinge thread.

Before you do the window you have to align the door if it's sagging or the body lines don't match up. You could fudge the window into sealing without fixing the door but that's a cowards way out and not the right way to do things.

The window regulator has several adjustments inside, it's about as trickey as aligning the door but not impossible. I keep saying it but it's true. It's all geometry when you look at things in there. There should be adjustments for back and forth, up travel limit, and inward or outward pressure.

If I or anyone else were to explain everything to you we would have a whole forum on door and window alignment.

That's the best I can offer. Maybe someone else cares to do a write-up?

I found this in the tech tips section. It does a good job explaining things.

I have this on a Word document that is much easier to read compared to what is on the web site. If you want a copy, send me an email to samlam@charter.net.
