Just got home, 11:30 or something like that, been working on a new ring and pinion setup for my 94 vert. (3.55 Richmonds ) . We had stopped for the night with a few problems, yet to solve. The car had been on the hoist for the last few day's. We dropped the hoist down and with the wheels on the floor , the back wheels are in a real "V" position. Mike my freind and mechanic said that I probablly would need an alignment, to set the wheel properly. This is were we seem to differ, Mike had cranked up the long bolts, that have the bushings on each end to support the spring. He tighted them to the point, were the nut is about 1/2 inch above the hole for the cotter pin. We also had installed new bushings GM part #10262518. These new bushings looked so much different than the old one's, were the old bushings seemed to be about 3/4 of an inch thick ,from washer to washer. The new ones at least an 1 1/4 thick and with a very pronoiced hourglass shape . So my question is , are these a new style of bushing or do we possibily have the wrong one's.
The second question is do these two item's agravate the " V " shape of the rear wheels. I do realize that the " V " should settle down to be less apparent after driving and some time on the ground.
Wow , Im sorry to bring this up but it is bugging me. I need so desperatly to try out this setup , it will be so different from the 2.59 ratio factory gears.
Thanx for any info or opinions. Earl
After our cars have been on a lift without the suspension supported, they need to be driven for a few miles to let it settle back down. Since it seems you can't drive it yet, you'll need to get it back on the lift and set the adjusting nuts to where they were (approximately). If you are using the original bolts (with the hole for the cotter key), just screw the nut to where you can put the key in the hole through the castle nut. After you can get it back on the road, you can adjust it to where you need it. Just drive it after each adjustment then measure. Make sure the nut isn't below the hole for the cotter key.
