I have an 88 vert with a paint code of WA8748 which I thought was Dark red Metallic - anyway I went to GM for a touch up and a can of spray and was told that GM didn't supply it - go figure!
Anyway, I found some tins of Duplicolor which is called GM Dark Red (M) which I bought and just tried but it's about 10 shades too dark.
Anyone know a source of the right color touch up paints?
Anyone have a very dark red metallic car and want 4 new tins of paint????
OK, just checked a couple of paint supplier sites and they are calling WA8748 Flame Red Metallic and not Dark Red Metallic - now I am just hopelessly confused.
There must be other C4 owners with stonechips who have the same problem
There are some colors that were available on Corvettes that were also available on other GM cars. The GM divisions gave them another name but the WA number was the same.
I wanted to get some Polo Green II Metallic for my 92 and I found the correct WA number on a DupliColor can and it was called "Medium Green Metallic" which is the name for the same color on a Cadillac.
I wouldn't necessairly trust DupliColor to have the right number on cans that were for DRM. If you go to an auto paint supply store, they can probably make a spray can for you using the correct mix to get what you need. They can be pricey at around $20-25 but it's the best way to go. Don't forget a can of clear to go over the base color.

Call around to some REAL parts stores. Find one that mixes paint for professionals. Ask them if they can make up a custom can of spray paint and a bottle of chip touchup. Then bring your corvette to them. They will take a "picture" of the paint with a special device that will tell them what to mix. Be sure they will guarantee the match. It should be in the $25 range or so. Without that snapshot they will only be guessing, because paint fades through the years.
Again, be sure they will guarantee the match or you will not be happy........
Find a paint supply store that has a PPG camera. They can take a picture of your car, and it will diagnose the EXACT color. They can then mix the paint from that. Those cameras are pretty cool!
My '87 is Flame Red Metallic. The paint code on the sticker on underside of console lid refers to it as 8748 and the RPO code is 74U. I called MidAmerica and gave them the codes. They sent me a bottle with #609526 on it. However, I haven't used it yet so I can't swear it will match. I'm gonna hafta find out. A 1 ounce bottle was about $6.00.
Prior to getting it from MidAmerica, I also went to a Chevy dealer and they told me it was discontinued. All they could get was the Bright Red.
