If I can I park on the right end of a row in the hope that I am lucky and a single occupant car ends up on my left. In a crowed lot I will park between two cars and hope I get back before they leave.

Very well stated.
I parked on the streets of downtown L.A. (well, near the convention center) and left it there for 4 hours at night. The theives know there's more valuable cars. But the vette is easy to break into and a helluva a joy ride.
#1 for me. And here's a tip - Don't back into a parking space and leave the nose of the car pointing out. Someone backing out of a nearby space won't be able to see the low front end of the Vette, and may back into you. Better to leave the higher more visible rear end of the car facing out.
#1 As far away as possible and at an angle so if some dummy decides to park next to me, he can't get close enough to open his door on mine. It's worked so far, it's a 94 and has no door dings. I get a lot of dirty looks for it, but what the hell. I once parked my new 66 SS396 Chevelle in a super market parking lot and some a--hole pushed their grocery cart down the side of it. I watched it happen & couldn't get to it in time. I was so pi--ed, I took the cart and threw it on the guy's hood. He stood in awe when I told him that about makes us even for paint damage.
#2 but in the summer, I look for a shaded spot more often than not. I also look at the condition of the vehicles on either side if there are any there. Honestly, when I bought my Corvette, there were already a few dings on the doors and rock chips in the paint. I refuse to let a bunch of parking lot trolls dictate to me when I drive my car or where I park it, although I do take some precautions as stated above.
I still remember what happened to my first new car, a 1968 Roadrunner. I parked across the lot, away from any other cars (at least 30 or 40 feet). As I walked into the store, some dweeb came out got into his Olds convertible, put it into reverse and backed right into the driver's side of my brand new, British Racing green, 1968 Roadrunner; it had 57 miles on it. His back window was all screwed up (plastic rear windows), he never even saw it. To say I was pi**ed would be one of the all time understatements of the century. He turned around and saw me coming at him and his car and you could see by his expression, he was watching his life flashing in front of his eyes.
I can laugh about it now but at the time, it was almost the end of the world to me. His insurance paid for the repairs and everything turned out all right. You can take every precaution in the world to protect your car in the parking lot; you pull out onto the street, drive half a block and some jerk will cut in front of you... *crash!*.
My truck gets similar treatment. Park in BFE on a high spot.
Today I pull into the parking ramp at work and there is a georgous C5 sitting all the way at the end by the wall. I felt it my duty to park my wife's Honda next to it as protection so no one else could hit it. It didn't even phase my wife....she knows I'm nuts.
Next time there is a car parked next to yours for no obvious reason, it could be me protecting your car from all the kick-the-door-open a-holes out there.
Always a #1 for me, and as so many of y'all mentioned I can park away from everyone and more often than not some idiot will park right beside me. Had one old man park behind me once and before he could get his car in reverse it rolled into my rear bumper and cracked it. I understood how someone could get mad enough to really hurt someone after that.
And if I'm still near the car I move it always now. I get the dirty looks too, and after one especially bad look I walked right up to the guy and asked him what the problem was and why did he insist on parking where he did when there was at least 10 spaces all around my car.
He didn't have an answer. They never do............
#5..........1...."create your own spot" ,that was'nt on the list, but what the heck.
A couple posts responded with no choice, I guess they just keep driving around & around & around.
We have "joezR2" who wants to play a defense postion, pretty cool. Next time I go shopping I'll give you a call.
Watch out for "rws.1" he want's to do the RAMBO thing.
This pretty much speaks for it self: WE'RE ALL FANATICS ABOUT OUR VETTES
Oooooh........And "boulderlt4" you got a excellent AVATAR.
#1 As far as possible....................the walk will do me good. Besides I have LoJack.
#4 but I almost never go to any store with my Corvette. The few time I have parked it has to be 100% safe and with a convertible their isn't going to be much time shopping.
