Default Weathersripping

Hi all,

I changed my weatherstripping (windshield + glass-top + targa seal) and I have a problem now : The glass-top does not fit as well as before.

I have to push on the top so I can screw it, I have then 2 questions for those who already changed thier wheatherstrip :
- Do I have to glue the new things (which I didn't do cause the new weatherstrips fits tight)
- Is it normal that the top fits not very well with brand new seals (my idea is that the thing will fit better after a few month...)

Thanks for your replies

I did mine about 6 weeks ago. Used very little glue. My targa top was hard to put back on also, I have not taken it back off yet. The hatch back is now a b*#^% to close. I soaked the new seal down with Armorall to try and help it slide in place. I am very glad I changed the weather striping it was starting to look shabby and leak; now it’s like new.

I used a reproduction Super Soft was who actually made it, best I can remember. I hope our weatherstriping it still looks and works good in 3 or 4 years.

I took a long trip right after putting in the new weather striping. Got caught driving 5 hours in the rain. 4 or 5 drops at the top of the passenger’s window was all that came in. I was pleased.

I bought mine there : http://www.weatherstripspecial.com/84-96.html

Looks good and as I said earlier it fits tight.
An other problem I have know (besides the targa top problem) is that I can't slide the passenger window fully up anymore, I have to open the door slide the window up and close it (and it's very difficult to close by the way...).
I then closed the window, put the top on and I'll let the car this way a couple of month in order to let the seals take their final shape...I hope it'll work this way

It can be adjusted, I believe a normal piece of notebook paper shouldn't get crushed when placed in-between. I didn't have that problem.

On the up window issue, I had that problem. And I used GM weatherstriping. What I found out by accident that fixed it was I spritzed the inside and outside of the window with Zaino Z6 or Z8, tried them both. Apparently the windows get sticky, putting the gloss enhancer makes them slick at contact points. Now they work fine actually better than before as they haul butt up and seat perfect.

I suppose a light coat of wax/polish would cause the same affect. As I was saying I found out by accident because I was giving the vette the once over with Z8 and figured hey it worked well on the transparent roof and rear hatch window, probably will make the side windows all slick and shiny too. Never dawned on me that would also fix the sticky window. So now when I spritz the body I hit the side windows too.

After I changed the weatherstriping I could not close my doors at all with the glass up. Had to take the doors apart and adjust the glass “up stop” and the “tilt in tilt out” there is a good Forum Tech-Tip on this, helped a bunch.

Speaking of window adjustments, does anyone else have a problem with the top rear edge of the window sometimes hitting the rear pillar. Mine does once and a while.

So was it much of a PITA to do the adjustments to the windows?

PITA yes……..worth the effort yes.

93JetJocky sounds like something is lose on your window. It should hit in the same place every time if all the adjustments are tight.

i used the supersoft brand and found out that i didn't have enough adjustment in my window for it to seal. i just got my gm part in the mail. i did have the issue of the top not fitting well but i hear thats normal. my only real major leak was with the front of the windows and they just didn't match up.
the adjustment wasn't too hard to do it just seems to take alot of patience.
