hard too explain the sound and thought the term fit the sound.
it'll chime normal then it's like it goes to slow play and the sound drags out and then hits a high note every so often.
the more i think about this i am thinking that i need to fix it. not that it matters for anything other then bragging rights when i tell everyone that everything works perfect.

I have the exact same problem as you, cat sounds and all, but I have no idea where to get started to fix this, please help me out if you find anything out.

I put electrical contact spray in the key slot and it did no harm. my chimes worked fine until I brought the car to a chevy dealer to check out a problem with the wiper controls and now it chimes with or without the key in, when the door is open.

This is why I bought an 85. Much fewer things to go wrong. The newer you go, the more bells and whistles there are and so, the more things that can and will eventually go wrong. I wish no one ever would encounter a mechanical problem, but we all know how quirky our cars can be.

I am going to try contact cleaner, because my chimes come on sporatically.

Maybe someone more familiar can chime in (no pun intended LOL).
I don't know if the '91 had the chime feature but the '90 definitely has it...does mine work? No, that was the 2nd thing to go south on my car...

Every 8 months I'll get the tone...I'm not rapping on my dash though, I'll just leave it as is...

Default Old Thread - New Question

After reading through this thread again, I tapped lightly on the dash just left of the glove box and the tone generator would chime a little bit. I tapped in this area because that's where it appears the sound is coming from. Question: can you get to it my removing the glove box pan or is this something I'll have to take the dash apart to get to.

Tone generator is located LH side of I/P near the DIC. It is a square box that sits on top of the PKE module. To access remove the console trim, radio bezel trim, and radio. You should see it.
