If you did what you're thinking of doing, there would be two schools of thought. The first is that people would look at the emblems, notice that they are for a different year and think they look good on your car. The other thought is that people would see your emblems and say to themselves that you only put on the later style emblems because you really want a later model year Vette, but cannot afford it. Those are the people that you just want to smack, and they are definitely out there.
But you should do what you want to do and not think or care what others think. If you like the looks, do it.
FWIW: The previous owner of my car (a 90) put on Collector Edition badges. I dont mind it at all, but i do plan on putting on correct emblems when I do a repaint, just so i dont have to answer questions about it.
do what you want-BUT, keep the stock emblems in the car for two reasons, first-if/when you decide to sell it-here they are. Second-for fun, if you get into a discussion with someone about the change, you can say, hey look at these-don't you think the newer ones look better?

Put me in the "do whatever you like, it's your car" group.
Is changing emblems any worse than putting in aftermarket seats, or an aftermarket steering wheel, or a Hurst shifter, or Fikse wheels, or a Corsa exhaust, or.....?
I would stay stock, JMO.
My friend has a 2000 Vert. I know it's a 00, and numerous other people know that it is a 00. He put the 2003 50th Anvr. emblems on his ride. Vette people will catch it and say, hmmmmm, who is he kidding others won't know the diff.

This would be more in the realm of putting ZR-1 emblems on a '96.
Crossfire is not trying to pass his C4 off as anything other than a C4.
I usually have big issues with stuff like this, but crossfire's idea puts me off not in the least.

Or 3, the only people that would probably notice or care are vette owners and even then im not even sure.

It's your car, do what you like. I removed the crossed flag emblem from the fuel filler cover of my 69 coupe and replaced it with an enamaled Grateful Dead emblem. Its my car.
