My a/c does'nt blow cold. I had to disconnect the harness to the compressor because the clutch would cycle on and off. Once while it was trying to use my a/c i started to notice my revs going up and down. When i popped my hood the revs matched the cycling on and off of the a/c clutch and the lines were visibly frozen. What do you guys think? Do i need just a R134 refill or is it something more serious?
Sounds like it's just low on refrigerant. Are you absolutely sure your car uses R134 and not freon? Right around 92/93 is when they switched over to the new stuff. You DO NOT want to mix the two.
When your car gets low on refrigerant, the clutch will do exactly what it is doing; Cycle on and off continuously. And that's why your RPM's are following suit.
The question is why are you low on refrigerant? Do you have a leak or is it just seepage from age. Many times, when cars age, refrigerant seeps from deteriorating o-rings. Other times, when you are low or your system empties, it's due to a pinhole leak in a hose or elsewhere in the system.
Summing up, I'd be willing to bet that you're just low on refrigerant and topping her off will cool you off. As mentioned, just ensure you fill up with the proper type of refrigerant.
Thanks alot. I had a new compressor and clutch installed a year ago so they are fairly new so you might be right about the refill. I do have 134 in it though. Thanks again.
