Unfortunately I got to drive in a little rain this morning and it looks like I have a problem with my wipers......1996 LT4
At first they wouldn't start, then they did but would stop......
Clearly what was happening is the breaker was tripping and then would reset allowing the wipers to operate for a VERY short period of time....
mostly I was trying to use either mist or intermittitant...
So do I just go out and get a replacement motor or ?????
if so best source for wiper motor...OEM or ????
Anyone have any experience with wiper motor problems????
Guy in our Vette Club had the exact same problem symptoms a couple weeks ago. It was, in his case, caused by the switch going bad. Replaced the switch and never a problem since...rains almost daily this time of year so he's had time to verify he solved the problem...LOL
Yep, those of us out here in the Seattle area use our wipers all the time, well those of us that drive every day do, the garage queens don't have that problem
I've never had to replace a wiper motor on any of my GM vehicles. I have however had to replace that damn multi-purpose stalk a half dozen times.
If its popping the breaker it sounds like a dead short. Mine were intermittent all the time on my 90. Turned out to be the wiper module on that vehicle. [small circuit board in the wiper motor assembly]. GM has had alot of trouble from the wiper modules in trucks and had a recall. I havent heard of any vettes other than mine having it go bad though.

I doubt if it is a "dead short", since it will, at least intermittantly, run for maybe 1/2 minute or so.......

Sorry about that but this was the part that made me think dead short. I figured if it was tripping the breaker after 1 or 2 seconds every time........
FWIW. all the problems Ive seen on the GM wipers have to do with the modules/circuit boards. They get cracks in the board or between some soldered joints that cause intermittent operation or to just quit working alltogether but never have I seen one cause a breaker to trip.
but never have I seen one cause a breaker to trip.
I guess I don't know that the breaker is tripping, I am going on the assumption that all wipers have a thermal overload "breaker" that is self resetting.........and mine is acting like that is the case......
Modules, circuit boards.....need to get the shop manual out and dig into this.....where are these located........
