Default PKE help

When I bought my 1996 it did not have a key fob so I contacted the local dealer and bought one. I have follwowed the manual and after pushing the buttons in the correct sequence the PKE light does not come on like the manual says it should. I thought maybe the bulb was burnt so I pulled the control center out but all the bulbs were good.

Ideas?

Well you could have just monitored the lamp as you turned the key on to verify the bulb. It comes on for an instant.

Ensure you are performing the steps correctly:

Transmitter out of range >10'

Key in ignition and ON position

Push Trip/Odo twice

Within five seconds press and hold Fuel/Info
until the PKE lamp on the DIC panel comes on and stays on.

Turn the ignition to OFF. Most go too far and position the key to Lock. Make sure you stop at OFF, obviously leaving the key in. The PKE lamp will start flashing.

Bring the transmitter into range. When it is recognized the flashing PKE lamp will go steady.

Turn the key to lock and remove the key.

It should work now. If its a coupe test the hatch button and door button. Walk out of range with the doors close it should lock and beep the horn. If not it make be in the non passive mode, open the drivers door, press and hold the door unlock button on the transmitter. The locks should cycle. Then try it again. You can turn the passive mode on and off by the door button on the transmitter.

On my 1994, the PKE light turns off instead of flashing when I turn the key to the Lock position. Has anyone else seen this? What could be wrong?

I've done that several times. The thing that is most confusing to me is the PKE lamp does not flash when I turn the key and the bulb is good. In the manual it says you can disable the system? I think I'll take it to the dealer.

Did you check the fuse with a DVM? I can guess at the fuse location, but the 96 and 93 may be different locations. Should be position #26 a 5amp fuse. Don't rely on just pulling and looking at it, put a digital volt meter to it to check for continuity.

What about the telltale lamp Security on the display, does it flash?

Here is the tech tip, try this first, sound as if you already have but cant hurt.
If it programs check to see if the buttons work if they do then you probably just need to arm the system, hold the door lock button untill the locks cycle.

You enable/disable the system by holding the door button on the FOB untill the locks cycle.

I need to replace mine so I was watching this thread so I would know how to program it. My remote will open the hatch but not the doors and the system is enabled. Since I can't cycle the locks I can't disable / enable it when I need to.

Are PKE fobs only available from the dealer new? No aftermarket ones available? I would rather buy it new since I already have one old one that doesn't work like it should. Eckler's and Mid America don't have them.

My 94 didnt come with a fob either. Im in Australia, and the Corvette dealer i bought it from said that it probably didnt have that option. I was under the impresion that EVERY one of them has it standard. My PKE light comes on when i turn the key and it has the fuse in it, but being here in Australia i want to be certain im right about every car having it before i buy the fob. Cause its not cheap here!!

I think Corvette Central has them, they are in the 2004 catalogue they sent to me last year

Your symptoms appear identical to mine. The PKE light does not flash after turning the key to OFF.

Fuse good, Security light flashes, got new battery on PKE device.
