Update
So it wasn't just as easy as replacing the flexplate. They removed the tranny and had to order a flexplate as it was smaller than they had expected. That's fine and dandy since I wasn't able to pick it up until tomorrow anyway.
Unfortunantly they also found the cause of the flexplate going bad... the starter was chewing it up. So he found a starter for it and should have it in and on tomorrow. On top of all of this he also informed me that the tranny is leaking in 3 different areas, so they're going to reseal it. I guess the plus is that they have already removed the tranny.
It should be done tomorrow. I guess I'll just cross my fingers.

well it all just got worse. The guy says they're all ready to seal her up and send me on my way if I want... but the tranny WILL fail soon as it needs a rebuild. He showed me the band inside and it's gone from brown to burnt black with metal scrappings taken off. Next he shows me the servo and says it's the smallest they make that fits a 700R. He thinks either someone from another shop decided to "replace" it since it's an expensive part. Needless to say he says that he's pretty much half way through the a rebuild with what he was doing already. The estimates he gave was $1200 for a rebuild and $300 for a torque converter plus $104 for my starter (plus labor for the install).
Any of that hold water?
BTW the flex plate was missing 6 teeth and had another chipped in half, that's all I had hoped to fix...

It's $1500 parts and labor for the tranny rebuild plus parts and labor for the starter and install. They charge $70/hour and he said the rebuild is 8.5 hours. He showed me the Aamco book for all the pricing quotes and took me into the shop and showed me the burned up band and I asked to see the broken flexplate.
That's a reasonable price for a rebuild and converter replacement. I'd make sure they use 9 clutch packs (stock is 6) and a kevlar lined band. Also get the Corvette servo put back on and get "The Beast" sun gear cover.
