Well I was on my way to Home Depot this morning and the vette started pulling to the drivers side slightly. I noticed it a little a slowed down to try to limp it home. Then it started a vibration so I pulled over. Got a hole in the sidewall of my GS D3 on the drivers front. These low profile tires feel different to me when going down. It's not quite as apparent or I am just dense. Anywho, lucked out, wheel is OK and Discount Tire store has 1 in stock. Gotta go get it mounted. Ya'll have a safe 4th out there.
The low profiles don't feel the same when they are running low. I got a nail in one of my rear GS D3's. It was too close to the sidewall to patch, plus the tread was bald.
Went to get the new ones put on. They took off that tire, and the f'king nail went through my tire head first. He pulls it off, calls me over to look and there is about 3" of nail, head and all, inside my tire.

You got lucky!!! And congrats on keeping her in control (if I understood that right). Every set of Good years I've ever bought I've had a side wall blow out in the first 2500 miles... warranty or not after happening 3 times, I won't ever put them on my car again!!!
You're right. I got very lucky. I was only running about 50 when the vibration started. I've had it up to 120 at TMS on those tires. I've never heard about sidewall blowouts. Kinda spooky.

It certainly puts a prospective on things!!! It is hard to say how or why the sidewall would just explode like that... but it seriously happened to me 3 times on Goodyear!!! Oh and I do agree that a cut performance tire feels different from a cut truck tire or passenger car tire. I think it is the stiffness of the sidewalls and the area of tread. It almost feels like the tire is out of balance. I'm sorry to hear of your problem... I hope your local dealer does what they can to make it right for you.
Located in Joshua, Just south of Foat Wuth. I didn't buy road hazard warranty, usually don't. I guess I shoulda this time. I didn't know of any way to prove it just blew out or something hit it. I had to pay for this one.
Blowing out a sidewall usually doesn't occur and is difficult to do, but can easily be accomplished if you inadvertently sideswipe something sharp. Or you tick someone off in a parking lot and he/she purposely jabs something into your sidewall; Strictly providing an example, of course.
