Default Jacking up the Vette

What is the best way to get the car up on four jack stands, in particular the 24" tall jack stands? I've tried to read the various posts and either this is not addressed or was confusing.

Do you:
A: Drive the front up on ramps (or some 2x8's), use a floor jack to jack up the front crossmember, place jack stands under the frame behind the front wheels, then jack up the rear diff, and place jack stands under the frame in front of the rear wheels, or

B: Jack up one side at the center of the wheel base under the frame, place jack stands on that side (one behind the front wheel, one ahead of the rear wheel), then repeat the other side, or

C: Jack up each corner individually, or

D: Something else?

I have a jack that will lift the front without having to raise the car first.

However, before I got the that jack, I would do a combo of b and c.

Jack the car at the rear jack point, and it will pick up the entire car! Then put the stands under the frame. Done.

Repeat for both sides.

Bogus
What is the rear jack point? Is it right under the diff?

Thanks

I place my jack on the frame about where the rear view mirror is. The front is heavier then the back and jacking it right there lifts the front and back about level.

Thanks. That's about what I thought.

I'm used to having to lift 40' diesel pusher motorhomes, which either have on-board hydraulic jacks or I've used wheel lifts.

If it is on a C5, I have heard that is not good to put the whole car on jack stands. in the back you can either jack the car up on the jacking point or on the cross member. I recomend the cross member because it lifts the back up equaly instead of the car being tilted to one side. Good luck...hope everything works out.

What crossmember? There isn't one in the rear. There is one in the front.

This is on a C4, not C5 otherwise he would ask in the C5 section.

There is a good article complete with photos at
www.ZR-1registry.com

on the left click on the Maintenance tab, then click on ZR-1 How To's
there you will find an article called How to Jack a ZR-1 by Michael Hom.
IT is applicable to all C4's

Good Luck
