94 blk/blk coupe. Came home from a 2 hr drive with top off today two things occurred. I got a wave from a 5.0 blk mustang vert. (I returned it of course) not sure if SHE liked the vette, the color, that the top was off or was just friendly... Anyway part two: when I got home parked in driveway and started to put top on the top. The front two bolts would not start...They were about 1/4 inch off. Took a few minutes to realize I parked on an unlevel spot on the driveway. Moved to a level spot and what do you know it went on without any problem...When the manual says park on a level spot believe it. These cars flex quite a bith with the top off....
I have found that I need to tighten the rear fasteners last, since they pull the top back and "set" it. I can get away with doing one side (front then back), and then moving to the other side, but the front fastener needs to go in first on both sides.
I have read to do the rear bolts first and then the fronts to minimize stress on the windshield header, so I fully tighten both rear and then both fronts.

I've parked on my lawn before and went to put the glass top back on. It wasn't even close. I couldn't believe how far off it was. Flex nothing, I thought I had the Stretch Armstrong of vettes. Crazy.

65Z01, If you can get away with that, then maybe it's time for me to adjust my front mountings. I have tried it your way and had trouble getting the front bolts to start. Now you've got me thinking.
