My father had a 79 and i wanted it more than any thing. I spent 3 years mowing yards and saving money to buy that sweet 79 when i was 18. I finally got her and some one stole it(at school).

I remember standing up in the passenger seat of my Dad's 65' vert (before child safety seats) so I could see over the dash, and telling him to "go vroom, vroom!" (he had a 350 block w/327 heads 2.02 intake valves and a 456 rear end) Man was that thing fast off the line! I would be pinned to the seat! He sold that and bought a 73' vert in 73' and although it wasn't anywhere as quick as the 65' that's the car that made me want a Vette. He let me drive it on a few dates when I was 18 ( probably poor judgement on his part) by then he had turbo charged it(he did that in 1977, he's a mechanical engineer and did all his own fabrication!) needless to say I had to "try it out" and when that turbo built up some boost man! What a feeling! Fast forward 20 years and now I have a C4 and a C5 (see my photos) and I'm looking for a nice C3 vert. Thanks to my Dad I've got Vette fever. Thanks for the thread! It's nice to travel down memory lane!

Probably no one outside of NYCity's ever heard of Luby Chevrolet, but I knew it well. It was in the neighb, and it always had a Corvette in the showroom. Not that they'd ever let a kid come close to it. Way before there were armed guards these salesmen guarded that car like it was gold. It was, to me.

Until finally, after years of going in there every Sept/Oct. when the new ones would come out, they not only let me sit in it, but they gave me a brochure. I thought, one day I'm gonna own me one of these cars.

And I have. And I do. What a pleasure.

When I was a shorty in grade school (first grade) there was a substitute teacher who had a canary yellow 1973 Stingray and she used to park it outside the chain link fence on the playground.

I remember spending my entire recess period drawing sketches of the car, gazing longingly at it and imagining what the POV was like behind the wheel.

I didn't get to find out until my high school graduation when a buddy of mine picked me up for a promised ride in his dad's 1969 Stingray, but by then, I was hopelessly addicted. Corvettes are near and dear to my heart and I've always loved every generation from C1 to C6!

WHen I was a kid there used to be this lady at Church that drove an Ontario orange 'vert with the funky wheelcovers. Still has the car today. I'd have to go home and compare it to the one on the inside of the big Hot Wheels storage thing that had pictures of their cars inside. Something about the lines on those cars. I too always got busted in class sketching a 67 Camaro or a vette with a blower.

I still think there was never a better decade that Chevy had some of the most distinct bodylines on their cars than the 60's.

Some dreams just won't die.... that was my case...
in '77 I was 15, drove a '68 mustang (nice 302\4v\4sp) happened upon a '68 vert. Everything fell into place, but..... the cost of insurance I just couldn't make $600 a year as a soph in HS.

I've been eyeballing vettes since I was a kid. Easily before the age of 10 I knew what a vette was and it became my favorite car and still is. My brothers are Mustang fans, so I didn't have any other family members with the Vette bug to influence me.
Love the vette.

1962. Just parked my banged up $25 51 Chevy coupe on the street and was walking to my High School when a red 63 vert motors past me. My jaw about hit the pavement and I knew I WOULD own one someday. Three years later I had it - a black 65 vert with a white interior and a 300HP 4-speed.

As great as all Corvettes are, and espec. the C4s (what else can I say???), one thing you have to do in your life as A CERTIFIED CORVETTE ADDICT.

You must ride in a mechanical-fuel injected Corvette with the top down.

That was my second ride in a Corvette, and it would be memorable just for that reason.

But the other reason was the sound, not of the exhaust, but of the engine. Believe it or not, I could hear the engine and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car. It was an incredible and beautiful sound. I can hear it now.

My "ride" was a 1960 Fuel Injected Corvette, but pick any year. I guarantee, you'll love it.

[the first was with the same rich kid/guy who had a '54 with Powerglide, still a blast on a hot, summer night in South Philly]

When I was a little kid I can remember being in Spearfish, SD for the annual Corvette Classic and seeing all of the vettes. The bright colors, the sound of the engines and from then on I was hooked but didn't yet have a favorite. Then when I was in junior high a friend of mine's brother had a two tone blue 1985 and I loved the digital dash and the all around look of it and found the model I wanted when the time was right. Finally 4 years ago I was very fortunate enough to find one in great shape and have been happy ever since. The only problem I have now is being depressed when I leave the forum after reading all of the cool things that alof of people are able to do to their own vettes. Someday is what I keep saying................. The forum is great!

I rode my bicycle up the highway to the Chevy dealer to see the new 53 Chevy sportscar. The souped up six was a way cool item when your reference was the big old six with huge oil bath aircleaner and a cannister oil filter. Then my dad told me he drove one at one of his Chevy dealers in the country and hit 120. I was hooked. Finally got one when I got out of the Air Force in 66, a new 67 roadster with a 350/327, had another 67 and currently have a 91 Z-07 which my grandson has dib's on.

Strangely enough, I don't. I was always more of a musclecar guy, and growing up I used to always associate Corvettes with the hyper-perfectionist, "NCRS"-type, not the gearhead crowd I was used to. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just wasn't my thing. I knew about Corvettes, just never really thought they were for me.

Then five years ago, I got the chance to buy my first Corvette, a 1985. In researchng whether to buy the car, I found the Forum, and discovered that when it comes to Corvette owners, it takes all kinds--show cars, drag cars, autocrossers, and daily drivers. Just a bunch of guys who loves cars.

So I may be late coming to the party, but I'm sure glad I made it!
