My brother-in-law has a 04 Cobra and a fleet of Toyotas, 1 Camy and two hill billy limos. He had a mid 80s Firebird and moved on to Mustangs in the late 80s.
My brother is returning from an overseas deployment and has been talking about getting a sporty car upon his return. I have been trying to talk him into a late C4. He had such a bad experience in the late 80's early 90's with my sister-in-laws car (I think it was an 87) that he went out and bought a Cobra sight unseen on EBAY. He stated that he would never own another GM (he also had a mid 80s Olds Gutless).
So when GM produces cars with initial quality problems, the people that were burned remember for a loooong time. My brother's stable is now a new Volvo and a Cobra.
My parents 2001 Suburban has be plagued by little problems since new and now they are talking about replacing the Burban with a Durango and getting my dad a new Mustang.
Due to GMs screw ups, I am now surrounded by Fords and Foreign cars, Christmas and other family get togethers is going to suck!
Get yourself (if you don't already have) a Corvette, jacket, hat, socks, sweater, watch, t-shirt and anything else that says your proud of what you have no matter what everyone else buys!
Can't even think about Chrustmas around here...still in the 90's

My Dad worked for GM as a tool maker and worked his way up to department supervisor. Our family has been buying 4 new GM cars a year (the max allowed) since the early 70s on the employee discount program.
We have owned everything from Chevettes to DuraMax trucks. This amounts to approximately 140 new GM cars. Not one of them has had a serious problem. There were a few minor glitches over the years - but very few and these were fixed right and quickly.
Now having said that, I have blown up a couple of motors, trannys, rear ends, clutches etc on used GM products. Usually my fault though.
Last week Enterprise rent-a-car gave me a Mitsubishi Lancer while my GMC was in the body shop. What a piece of cheap crap that was! I was embarassed to be driving a car made by the same company that made the airplaines that strafed and bombed our WWII soldiers and sailors in the Pacific!
I know it's irrational, but I still got the feelings.

Mitsubishi = the Zero.
3,000 killed at Peral Harbor. Just like 9/11 another sneak attack.

Looks like your parents are going from bad to worse buying a Durango. Go to your local transmission shop and as them about the Durango's transmission?
PS. Don't feel so bad, I am the only one in my familly that drives a Chevy. I come from a Ford familly. My wife even drives a Toyota and my daughter who grew up around my Corvettes has an Eclipse.
OOps Got dyslexic in Swedish
Saab=GM
Volvo=Ford
Except Volvo had an agreement with GM on trucks a while back and still does but she has a car not truck leastwise a class6 or 7 truck see here http://www.processactivatedtraining....oGMTrucks.html
So everybody has a piece of everybody these days it seems.....
