Default engine skip

The engine hasn't thrown any codes, but when I left it idle for a short time, such as when fueling, then drive off, I get a skip and sputter for approx. 3 miles after. If I hit the gas, she is okay, but when I maintain at a steady speed, I get the skip. Like I say, it goes after a few miles. The temps are okay, etc. Any ideas????? I also posted this in the scan and tune forum. (sorry!)

You leave your car running when you fill up?
It has been my experience that corvettes do not like extended idling
no matter the year

Do you get a miss at idle before the problem occurs?
Does reving the engine a copla times prevent the problem?
Do you have any hard start problems when the engine is cold or when it is hot?

Well your depressurizing the tank when you remove the cap. You may have a marginal fuel pump that pumping sediment that may be in the tank which you are stiring up during refueling and the pump is running at the same time.

It takes maybe a bit for things to return to normal.

Perhaps, try refueling with the engine off see if it changes things.

Did you know that gasoline fumes are heavier than air and will settle to the ground? Hmmm, hot cats hot exhaust and heavy gas fumes. Also, since we don't use grounding straps during refueling one of the most critical times is the moment the pump nozzel touches your filler neck. That is usually when static discharge occurs. Its generally a good practice to not have the engine running during refueling and touch the nozzel to the tank neck prior to starting the fuel flow.

Just an opinion other than that perhaps some guesses you may wish to try to see if you can isolate the problem.

I was using the fueling up example to just give everyone an idea of the period of time I let it idle. Of course I shut it off for fuel ups; in R.I., they make you before they turn the pump on. I guess they saw that video that was going around a while ago with the guy igniting himself!!!!!!

Well that was my guess. Maybe its heat related meaning something is beginning to fail or become intermittent when it gets hot like that. After a few minutes and air flow returns it cools a bit and all is fine again.

Yeah, it is a pita!!!! I have injectors to put in it, and just put a set of wires on. I was going to do the injectors this winter (R.I.) during the down time. The only thing I did to this car recently was, gulp, wash the motor. I was very careful, but it seems like since then, I've had the problem.

I had a similar scenario a few years back and it was a bad spark plug wire. Replaced it and all has been fine since then. Cost under $35 to fix. I had it put on a diag machine and it found the bad wire in no time. I could have tried to figure it out but I wanted to get it corrected quickly. Start at the wires because this fix is very inexpensive. If that fails, then maybe look at other more expensive items.
