Hey everyone!
I need to replace the antenna mast on my '94 and I dont know what the easiest way to access it would be. Wheel well or back hatch(if that's possible)? The motor's good and I just need to put the mast on.
How are you putting the new mast in? Is it easy? My antenna doesn't retract all the way, though I can push it back in the last bit that sticks up, I'd rather fix it!
Remove the left rear tire and the inner wheel well panel, including all the tork screws.Their it is .
Yep! There it is. Way back underneath. Rubber boot covering the whole unit so I'm having a hard time figuring out what makes it come out.
replacement mast came with directions that dont seem accurate. Anyone have a Helm's they can scan and email me a page with better info?
I havent picked mine up yet. :o

I believe that you can replace just the mast on your 94 unless part of the ribbon is broke off inside the motor. Here is a post made on 8/15/05 in the tech section.
If you buy a new mast, it should include a tool that will remove the retaining nut that keeps the old mast from coming out. Once the nut is removed the mast can be removed by turning on the radio and pulling the mast as the motor pushes it up. Installing the new mast is basically a reverse of this procedure but it is a bit easier with 2 people. I replaced my mast in about 10 minutes and the new one (bought from a vendor on Ebay) works great. More complete instructions can be found either with a new mast or a service manual.
I couldn't figure out how to guide you to the whole thread. Do some searching in the tech section and you will find more information. Do an advanced search in the C4 section and type in "antenna", it should pull up the entire thread that I quoted from.
I also had that problem. I extended it fully and cleaned it very well. Then I put some light oil on a clean rag and rubbed her down. Seems to be working fine now. I also have a couple other things that I have tried. I have used black paste shoe polish on my steering wheel to hide nics and wear spots. Works like a charm! I also have some wear spots on my rear hatch carpeting. Last night I used some red food coloring to cover it a bit and it is almost impossible to see anymore. I know the stuff is color fast as I have spilled it on my T-shirt and it will not come out. Just a few tricks I have come up with that might work for some of you.
