I had the same problem on my 92. When I first started, I was wondering how many hoops I was going to jump thru to do this usually simple task but that is just the nature of this car. Actually it isn't that bad it just takes time and a little help from the knowledgeable folks on this forum. Here's what I did. I disconnected the negative battery cable, removed drive belt and moved the alternator off to the side. Remove upper radiator hose. Remove the belt tensioner which is held on with just one bolt. I could not get the tensioner out but I moved it out of the way. Take note of its position as there is a alignment pin hole you will have have to find blind and in a tight spot upon reassembly. This will allow you access to the wire boots to the opti-spark. Change out wires one for one. Removing the center wheel well panel helps too. Hope this helps Good luck!
I looked in "Tech Tips" and there wasn't anything listed. I read somewhere (probably on here) that if you take out the inner fenderwell it helps with changing the plugs and/or plug wires on the LT1.
I don't remember if that was a tip for the driver side or the passenger side.

Sounds almost as if it would be simpler to remove the entire engine! That was some cracker jack engineering by done by the geniuses at GM in that design.
I went a few steps further in disassembly for needed space. I also moved the A/C aside and moved the ASR unit out of the way. I went with MSD's 8.5 mm wires and the factory looms just didn't cut it for me and I made modifications to the looms. (I hate being a perfectionist at times ) Now when I change things, I'll do it all; plugs, wires, water pump and opti. Overkill? probably, but I never like putting old parts back in, especially if they tend to fail or wear. Oh, that Haynes or what ever you bought at AdvancedAuto, garbage. Get yourself a set of Helms Manuals for your year Vette.
On projects like this, I like to plan upgrades and do them all when I start taking it apart, ie, I plan on replacing my shorties with long tubes and maybe heads and a cam. You save time and money if you can do it all in one session. With that said, how old is your opti and water pump?
Remove the center inner fender panel (8-10mm bolts)......remove belt and belt tensioner (1 bolt).....in some cases it helps to remove the 4 bolts on the AC compressor and lay it aside. Not a bad job, just take your time.
Search the archives for a post by 'Lone Ranger' I followed his write-up and had them changed on my 94 in about 2 hours. I have a lift in my shop so that helps, but his way of doing the wires was right on without having to remove a lot of pieces/parts.
Here is the title of the post. Not sure how to post the link. Hope this helps!
This really ought to be in the tech tips section !??
