Battery
As far as installation tips, it should be a simple swap of batteries.
The only thing i've heard deals with the Optima Batteries... It seems that several members have had to cut one of the posts off the top of the battery to install it properly.. However, the battery installed fine in my 93, without any modifications. So I'm not sure if it's just for specific model years that fellow members have had to remove the post.

Get a name brand, but just not AC Delco, it will fall apart.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I had a huge stereo in my my boat that would drain my dual battery setup in 10 minutes.
Now I can play it for about an hour before having to start the boat.
My wifes summer car ate a battery every year from sitting,,,Optima is 3 years old now fires right up
The Yellow is between the Blue and the Red on the scale of starting
power and neglect tolerance. It supposedly doesn't release energy
quite as rapidly as the Red but it tolerates longer times between charges.
I have a Yellow that has sat for long times unused and without
charging - months of neglect in outside storage through sub-zero temps
in a vehicle that sees much less use than my C4.
As for the Delco. I used to have to replace the ones I had in the C4
about once per year. I thought it was going to be the same again with
the current one but it is holding its volts higher between uses and has
lasted much longer than the previous ones.
The only change is that I started using a Schumacher 'Speed Charger'
#SC-1200A battery charger to top up the Delco. I purchased it because
it has different charge modes and was better choice for maintaining the
Optima (when I finally got around to this.) But the Delco seems to
be surviving longer this year with the help of periodic sessions on a
more sophisticated charger than the 2 Amp or variable Amp chargers
I used in the past..
(Note that the 'Speed Charger' requires the negative terminal be
connected to the vehicle chassis or to a length of battery
cable, instead of directly to the battery terminal. Not sure why -
enables the charge sensing feature??)
Edit: As mentioned, my current Optima is in another
non-C4 vehicle.
I was not aware the top terminals can touch chassis
components. This would be show-stopper for me. I
would not try to run it this way and I would not try
to mod the battery.
I looked at Optima's site to see whether they offer a
'side-post only' style. Did not see one, but this was
not an exhaustive search either.

I replaced my battery with an Optima (red top) I had to cut one of the connectors on top off to prevent it from grounding itself on a bracket. Well all was fine for about 3 weeks until it just crapped-out on me. I though for sure it could be anything, except my battery. So I had a flat bed pick-up my car and bring it to a shop where they ran a bunch of tests. Ends up the optima battery had a shorted cell, possibly from cutting the connector. I put an Interstae battery in and haven't had trouble since.
