After reading another member's thread who made his own battery shield and air-dam, towards the bottom of the thread, it sounded like some forum members had or have problems with their BMAD?
I've got one on my car and have been very happy with its ability to drop my temps much quicker than they used to. Nobody else? When I bought mine, the BMAD was the "next big thing!" What happened?
I never was very sold on the idea. Just seemed like it was just asking for radiator damage as open to obstacles as it is. Also, like the guy who made his own, I saw myself dragging it off on a sharp angled driveway or parking curb.
I guess because my car, with a well maintained cooling system, runs cool enough with the stock set up and because I have dragged my front spoiler on many occasions, I just didn't see a need for it. JMHO. I'm not bashing it or anyone who has one. Obviously some people are happy with them. I just didn't need one because my car still runs as cool as the day it was bought without one, and I live in Texas.
I'm pleased with it. After standing still for awhile, when I finally get going it seems to cool off quicker than it did before, and by the way it's made, it's got to be forcing more air in and up to my open cut lid and K&N. As far as hitting something, I'm sure my one-piece air dam will be in shreads beofre I ever hit the Big Mouth.
I will definitely admit I miss my homemade BMAD.
There was a decrease in the avg temp for certain, though now post-BMAD I must say I somewhat question the price (even for making my own). The few degrees difference could probably just as well be made up with a better radiator.
No question tho, it's neat.
Heres my take on the BMAD. The fit could have been a little better, which I know Im not the only one who had fitment issues on a '96. The color was not anywhere near being close to admiral blue. You cant really tell as it is under the car nor will I tell anyone, but when my mechanic had it in the air, he noticed it right away. I asked Eric about the color problems, and he told me that is was custom and would never be perfect. Last time I checked, there were at least 1000 cars painted dark cloissane blue in '96, that being the factory GM color that came on the GS. I noticed no cooling benefits before or after installation. I keep my car in tip top shape and it didnt cool any faster or slower than before I installed it. As for the price I paid, he gave me a discount because mine was a prototype for the GS with the color and the stripe kit he included, but none the less, the color should at least match he car. I would not purchase one again for the price I paid and the product I received. I will say this though, it does look cool on the car. One more thing, this is in no way supposed to be a flame post to Eric or his product, just telling my experience with it. I know alot of people have benefitted greatly from this product and that is great. It is also great that someone is stepping up to the plate to produce aftermarket products for our dinosours caled the C4.
I haven't had a problem with mine, but the raccoon I hit did.
As far as letting objects in, the opening isn't any bigger than stock. It's just that the BMAD is longer than the stock piece allowing it to direct more air.
If it won't fit with the stock piece, a foreign object won't fit with the BMAD either.

I'm quite pleased with mine, the data on his site was some I collected and I stand behind it. It's not bolt on, since it requires drilling and the exact mounting position is whereever you're comfortable with. I don't scrape mine hardly anymore like I used to.
I also think you'll get more benefit if you leave the stock air damn in place also. Just remove the factory deflector.
Interesting replies, all. I appreciate all of them. I have been happy with my BMAD as well, though I did find it slightly frustrating when I realized the "simple bolt-on" item I'd purchased landed me on my back, under the nose of my car, at night, in the garage, trying to punch a brand new drillbit through the front framerail with my powerdrill. Also, the screws included with the BMAD were too short (which Eric told me they would be over the phone when I ordered), so I got longer ones at the hardware store. I feel that for the price, though, it wouldn't be too much to ask for appropriate mounting hardware to be included with the unit, as well as slightly better instructions.
That said, my car does recover much quicker from high coolant temps. I've only scraped once, and no real damage was done. All in all, I'd give it a B-.
