I noticed today that the TPI has a small "bump out" at the back of the engine bay, on the firewall...kind of like a cradle where the back of your TPI should be.
Problem is, by TPI is listing over about 1 inch to the passengers side. The top of my tpi is very close to the firewall.
My dad thinks the passengers side engine mount might be to be to blame. He seems to think the rotation of the engine, over time, would compress the mount down...does that make sense?
It's a 1990 C4 targa auto with only 110k miles on it.
Dads are always right. And when we aren't, we're still not WRONG! Wives are the same way. The only difference is when they are wrong, they are still right. Right? Right!
Do you all think that mount is something he could do? He has a hoist, and he loves working on cars...but he's kind of old, and has a hard time bending his knees.
Has anyone ever done the passengers side mount before, and might you have some advice I can pass along?
And one more silly question. Should I only buy the mount from the dealership, or would any autoparts store be okay?
I'll take a picture of how far off it is tomorrow and post it.
There are no after market engine mount for C4, have to buy from the dealer. Shop for price, check with chris at superiorchevy.com (Jeff Kopp is the supervisor and belong to this forum). You can replace the mount with a jack. Jack it up at the oil pan. When I did this the ex. manifold weren't in yet... Don't know how tight it is with the ex. man on

Here is name/number of auto shop in Norcross that has been recommended to me. I am too far north of Norcross (closer to Canton) so haven't used them myself so can not personally say anything about their work--just that others have told me they are good and very 'vette knowledgeable. Norcross Auto--phone
770-448-0393. Depends of course which area of Atlanta you are from. There are also several Atlanta area Corvette Clubs that would be good sources for you. Also, Chevy Dealer in Keenesaw area very involved with vette's, but can't remember name right now. Email me if I can help.

I've had a broken motor mount on a car other than a vette. Anytime I would give the car gas, the motor would torque to one side. The fan woud come up, contact the fan shroud and make a heck of a noise. I think that if you had a broken motor mount you would know it.

Maybe not, but it's something YOU could do, with his guidance and knowledge and "standing-by".
You be the muscle, he be the brain..... That's how the Dad/kid relationship works at this point.

Sure you do, Kevin. It's so the car will be balanced with only the driver in the car...when max performance is required. AT least that's what we tell Porsche owners....

Don't know about yours, but mine has electric fan, not even close to the motor. You are still sorta right thou, there should be some symptoms other than just a visual look/see, especially when under torque. But I am no expert, not even close, just trying to help.
