Default 90 ZF shift ****

Anyone know how to get the shift **** off one of these levers?

I've got the pattern button off and that's revealed an ugly, anvil-looking thing that the book calls a "cotter pin." I've NEVER seen a cotter pin that looks like that.

Of course if you try to pry it up the only thing you can use for a fulcrum is the $70 ****.

Ideas would be welcome.

Thanks.

take a medium size pair of vice-grips and securely fasten to the head of the metal T-shaped wedge & carefully tap upwards against the vise-grips using a small hammer, the T-wedge will come out. carefully back out he tiny nylon screw at front side of the ****, being extra careful in avoiding ruining the delicate threads of the nylon screw. remove the ****. its all good.

Would this be the same process for a 95 ZF6?

I used a brake adjustment tool. It looks like a double-headed flat-blade screwdriver with two 90-degree bends in each end. You could also compare it to the world's smallest pry bar.

Normally this tool is used to spin the adjusters in drum brakes (thru the slotted access hole). For this job, you can pry the wedge out without damaging your leather shift ****.

(I'm not sure if later years used the same wedge).

Mine has the ring you pull up for going to reverse.

I don't think yours has that, does it?

I used an old screw driver and bent in to a 90 degree angle. The pin came out easily then. I did not put the pin back in, and my **** stays in place tightly.
