No--I have an average-looking '84 with a lot of new stuff that I bought and installed: http://www.c4restore.com/parts.htm

My car is ordinary and all original. My point here is really that when I 'start the bidding' by asking $15,000, I absolutely do NOT expect to get that. I just happen to have common sense enough NOT to under bid myself.

Yes--there IS a butt for every seat. And there is someone out there looking for this particular car with all of the new parts I've installed on it. Someone like me who saw the first C4 rolling down the street and instantly fell in love. It was the absolute coolest-looking car on the4 road in 1984 and the only car without big, oversized chrome bumpers--and half as high as every other car on the road! "The best handling car on the planet", according to Road and Track, or Car and Driver, whomever made that quote.

That guy wants this car--and I have it close to fully restored and all original.

Only one way to find out who's right here, see how fast it sells. If you do get $15,000 for it (and I hope you do) that better for all of us but I can tell you I bought nice, clean mid range miles 93 6 speed for 15000. last year. Coming on here questioning everybody's intellingence because you may have overpriced your car is certainly not what this forum is for. I find most people on here are very informative and willing to help, but they also know what the market will bear when it comes to used Vette prices.

Just my opinion,

Dan

Your first post.

Now, I'll have a discussion here with you but you've got to be reasonable, okay?

Edit: Never mind. I just read your original for sale thread.

Chief, you need to put down the pipe and sober up abit.An 84-20 footer- at $15,000,NEVER HAPPEN.I own an 84 and if I could get that kind of money,IT BE GONE YESTERDAY.Ive had this car for almost 20 years so ive always watched the market just to see where its going. For years 84 prices were in the toilet and slowly 85-86-87 dropped aswell and now there all pretty much in the toilet.Im far from being the expert here and what makes me laugh is when the "Corvette" magazines put out there annual price guides, what a crock of shi+ this is.The guys quating the prices are the guys stealing them from some dumbass that doesnt know any better than to sell his Corvette to a Corvette dealer.Anybody that has followed Vette prices know that this "PRICE GUIDE" isnt what people in the know are paying for cars. Now I didnt read your entire rant and I my have missed something here but the one thing you need to know is THESE CARS ARENT WORTH ANYTHING.An 84-20 footer- will go for $3,500 all day long.A friends got a neighbor thats got an 84 thats clean,or in your world a $25,000 car and he cant give it away for $5,000.Punks,yea.Its Friday and my weekend has started, pass the pipe

You say you don't expect to get $15k, but at that starting price your not going to get any offers. If you started at $8k at least then someone wouldn't feel bad about offering you $5k.

I read your post in the "for sale" area...I don't really care what you ask or get for your car...your business...

I do care that, after what went on in the other thread, you felt the need to open this thread...what is your point?...

Maybe you think by rehashing the same crap in this thread you will prove your point?...Maybe you felt the need to stir up trouble?...either way, this thread is pointless in my opinion...

Sell your car, keep your car...whatever you like...but please stop this foolishness...

Nevermind...

evidently no one can read here: I NEVER EXPECTED TO GET $15 for this car.

OMG--how many times--in how many ways--do I have to say that?!

You're right.

I just hate punks. I'm venting. It worked too--punks came out of the woodwork to post!

I'm done...but the punks will continue to post.

...I didn't ever really want to sel the car anyway!

Punks! Ban me--go ahead. I'm gone.

I think we all understand that. It seems to be you that has the issue here. If you price a car more than 10k over it's expected resale value then people are going to assume your smoking something real good. They ask you to past the pipe, but they ain't going to make an offer.

Why not get the chip off your shoulder for a second and show us some evidence.

First -- what NADA were you looking at? I'm looking at the NADA site right now and "low retail" for an 84 (which is all any private party could reasonably expect to get) is about $7K. Now average retail (the "20 footer" you refer to) is $12.7K -- not $15-22K. And, for that price there's usually a 30 day warranty, dealer financing, etc. I put zero value on these services and actually prefer buying from private parties who have cared well for their cars (I assume that's you), but not everybody does.

Second -- What you spent to refurbish your car is almost irrelevant. As you know, it's what the market will bear. Go find the average asking price for 84's on Cars.com (median $8K), Autotrader.com (median $8.9K),or completed EBAY sales (median $4.5K -- HIGHEST a "mint" with 31K miles for $12.9K) and you'll see asking $15K for a 1984, even in outstanding shape, is swimming upstream and could actually keep a lot of legitimate potential buyers from even calling you.

Third -- just one data point but this example might help. I paid only $11K a year ago for a 1993 -- 1-owner, full service records, garage kept, excellent (but not show) condition, 6 speed with 84K miles. And, people tell me I probably overpaid a bit! Now I cannot imagine paying any more than that for a Crossfire with either 4+3 or automatic no matter how well restored - it's still a 22 year-old car with a lot of first-year issues.

Now I agree with you that Forum rules state we should not be slamming someone else's asking price -- the market will do that just fine. But, all the name calling doesn't help your case a bit.

Here's a thought. Sell your car, and then come back and tell us how much you got. It is to all our advantage that you get $15K for your car. But, don't be disappointed if you have to settle for much less.

I'm sorry that you feel you had to vent this way.

It's not a good idea to post something trying to incite others to flame you and start a fight. Please refrain from this in the future. I'm locking this thread now.

Thanks.

sssnot, if you feel that you should still be able to start this type of topic, feel free to PM me to discuss.
