Default Converticoupe?

Corvette Central has something they call a "converticoupe' for sale. Made by some outfit called Auto Accessories of America. You pull the hatch back off of a C4 coupe. There's a cover that goes flat over the back end (that the hatch normally covers) and a rear window frame with a removeable rear window. Pull the rear window out and you have something similar to a convertible with a roll bar. Sounds like a good idea, if and only if, it's a good application of a good idea. $795. Anyone own or investigated this item?

There is a member here who has a yellow C4 with one installed. I cant remember his forum id. Perhaps he will chime in. From what I have heard, the fit and finish on these parts are not very good.

I have seen them at car shows in person and the fit and finish seemed OK. But having said that I think I have to agree that you should just buy a vert. There are very few body mods out there that can improve the looks of the C4. Some of the Rick Mears kits and the Callaway kits are the exception. JMHO.

If you like the looks, then why not? Corvette owners possess widely varying tastes and what is right for one may not be acceptable for another.
I don't care for them (one of the stylists at the salon where I get my hair cut has one and I am not impressed), but if you like them enough to ask about them here, then go for it.

Default Ahhhhh Shoot

Guess I'll just buy a convertible. That was easy. Why don't you guys that want to go faster just buy a Z06? Badda boom, badda bing, you're going faster. Easy. I'll admit that the Z06 doesn't have the eye appeal that the wife's '95 coupe does. She says c5's and 6's have big a$$es. I tend to agree. I've only seen one view of the converticoupe. I'd have to see a lot more views and hear from folks that have used it successfully. Guess that ain't gonna happen. Thanks for the replies.

I am not doing a commercial, and know nothing about the Company mentioned by the forum member who started this thread. This is just to give you guys an idea of what the concept is. I copied my reply from another thread about this conversion. Answer before question. would i ever consider doing this to my C3 ? Answer Hell No !!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both my C5,s are custom convertible coupes. I had a problem entering from the wheelchair so i took both cars to Coachbuilders in High springs Fl for conversion. Electric over hydraulics they operate effortless at the push of a button concealed in the center console. Another rocker switch concealed just behind the door on the driver side, for operation outside the vehicle from the wheelchair. Multifaceted they give me the pleasure style and safety of having both convertible and coupe.. Needless to say i am pleased. It is both tops you see on the walls . The only drawback is an price increase from 04 at $ 10,500.00 TO 06 at $ 14,500.00. IMHO too much.
I spoke with the owners of Coachbuilders to register my indignation. To what avail ? The jury is still out. And i did remind them that i had directed several forum members his way, with C5,s and C6,s so it's a wait and see. Here's photos of the operation in progress.
