So beside the readliy available non pop up kits available from breathless and c5west what other options are available for non pop up? I recall a thread mid last year where a member was working on using fixed fiat headlights on his car and showed a pic of what it would look like. Does anyone remember this? Better yet, does anyone have that pic? I would really like to find it I am seriously considering doing this.
I went thru 4 setups (including real HID w/ ballasts) before finding one that can light the road up at 120 MPH blasts.
It was thru Daniel Stern. It had 2 Bosch e-spec reflectors, 2 Narva 100/130W bulbs, and I had to upgrade my wiring to 10 gauge, using relays to trigger them (Direct line off the battery).
THe lighting is out of this world.
If you do an archive search under C4 (general or technical?) you will find some very long-winded posts from me.

I did something similar, using Hella bodies and 80/100w H4's.
While they look stock, they don't work like stock.
If you're after "the look", then this route won't help you....and I think this is probably the case. The Sebring-type, non-retractible lighting setups may or may not give you improved lighting.
Hella e-specs were a good improvement over stock with 100/110w HID simulator bulbs.
The problem I had with the Hella e-specs was that the high-beam, low beam aim points arent as good for cars with low ride heights. Aim the low beams straight on (or slightly down) and your highs are up in the trees. Aim the highs straight on and you couldnt see as well as with your lows. Either way, the Hella set up was an improvement over stock.
The Bosch e-spec setup with Clear glass Narva 100/130w and relays is way bette.r
Its to get improved ligithing. But if it also looks good it wouldn't hurt. I regularly take it over 100mph with the highways outside of town. What other wiring modifications were necessary to upgrade to better lighting?

I have noticed this as well.

Good tip. First time a rock busts a lens, I'll go with the Bosch's.
Wiring mods: The 80/100W bulbs are okay with stock wiring. I would relay the units if I went any higher, though.
(I relayed the 80/100's..four light system...on my VW. Simply because old wiring/switches/connectors/etc. is an issue with vintage VW's, and it doesn't seem to be an issue with later C4's)
