Default Wheel Offset... trying to understand!

Ok I'm going to be getting some new wheels (OEM CE/GS style). I'm trying to understand this offset issue.

With a stock '93 tire sizes, replacing the sawblades (8.5 & 9.5) will 17 x 9.5 / 56mm on all four work?

Will that cause and handling issues (I don't believe it will)?

Will they still remain inside the fender wells?

Thanks

56 mm. except for the 17x11 @50 mm. is what you would want. I have the 17x9.5 w/ 56mm offset and they are inside the wells with no problems.

Lani, 9.5" with the 56mm offset on all four corners was actually a performance option and I think it was standard from 89 to 92 (except the ZR1):

I'm in the same boat as Jet-Jock and I'm not fully understanding the wheel issue here.

I have a completely stock 93' C4 with 8.5 on front and 9.5 in rear. I want to buy new wheels.

Tire Kingdom advised me Kumho does not make a 315 tire for the rear.

Will I need to buy 4 more new 4 tires?

I would think you need 11" wide rims for 315s. I've always been lead to believe that 285s are the widest for 9.5" rims.
Just my opinion.

Thanks !!!

This is what I'm shooting for:
1996 Collectors Edition (z51)
front & rear 17"x9.5" 56mm (7.4" backspacing)
Goodyear Eagle GSC, P275/40ZR-17

Which should work perfect.

This is what you should have:

1993-1996 (base)
front 17"x8.5" 56mm
Goodyear Eagle GSC, P255/45ZR-17
rear 17"x9.5" 56mm (7.4" backspacing)
Goodyear Eagle GSC, P285/40ZR-17

or

1993-1995 (z07)
front & rear 17"x9.5" 56mm (7.4" backspacing)
Goodyear Eagle GSC, P275/40ZR-17

Your fronts will fit fine on a 9.5 wheel.

The rears will also fit fine on a 9.5 wheel.

To move to a 315, you'll need to go with the 11" wheel
Use these specs
1993 (zr1)
front 17"x9.5" 56mm (7.4" backspacing)
Goodyear Eagle GSC, P275/40ZR-17
rear 17"x11" 36mm (7.93" backspacing)
Goodyear Eagle GSC, P315/35ZR-17

The only problem is that is for a real ZR1 (remember that bod is 3" wider)
So if you have a regular coupe or vert, and you wanted the 11' s' you would need to use the 17x11 w/50mm. to fit.

Yippee! Ordered a set today... should be here in ten days or less. For $20 extra I could have gotten them in two days but I'll save that for mounting and balance.

In talking to these folks they ship out like 600 sets of wheels a day... WOW that is a lot of wheels.

Seemed like nice folks, will post pictures afterwards.

Jet, who did you go with?

I'm in contact with AFS.com and Discount Tire Direct.com.

I like the black Chrome 9.5 front, 11's in rear and the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 tires.

Once she's all fat, pics will follow.

Fat.... LOL

Good choice on tires. I got my D3's, well both sets from Discount Tire but here locally instead of online. I'll have them do the remounts when the new wheels get in and I can make an appointment. FYI, make certain whoever does the mounting/balance- only stick on weights. Sometimes they want to put a stick on and clip on ...

And don't be surprised if the tires need rebalancing to get them just right. I always watch them and they seem perfect on the initial mount/balance but after a 20-50 miles I pickup a slight vibration. Take them back for a re-balance and they always get it perfect afterwards. Don't know if it is a settling-in thing or what. But it's happened on both sets now. I usually detect it at low speeds and then again at very high speeds say over 85 or so. But they always get it worked out.

From OE Wheel Distributors down in Sarasota.

I just read LT4 compyell's post and I must have not read the original post correctly, I appologize, as I missed the part of using original tire/s and sizes.

The 255 will work, but depending on tire mfg. and style of tire, the min. rim width for a 255 can be an 8.0-8.5 with a maximum of 9.5-10.0 rim width.

According to BFG. it changes slightly due to different tire; ie. KD is .5 different (10. max.) then KDW (9.5 max), still within spec. using a 255,

Since I do not have a GY catalog, and am not entirely familiar with their tires, double check the GY's you are putting on to varify this info. as different tires/style do give slightly different numbers.
Jet Jock sorry for not reading this correctly and stating this info earlier.

First what is "KD"?

Well I hope so, I'll have to check with Goodyear to ensure this is ok. I hope the heck it is, as I've been told on here that I shouldn't have any problems using stock size tires on the 9.5's.

LOL quoting my own post!

This is from Goodyear (Eagle F1-GS-D3):

Tire Size 255/45ZR17
Service Description 98Y
Sidewall VSB
Approved Rim Width 8.0 - 9.5
Meas. Rim Width 8.50
Section Width 9.9
Outside Diameter 26.1
Tread Width 8.4
Max Load 1,653 @ 35

So looks like it will just fine.

KD is theri best dry only performance tire and , KDW best dry and wet tire.

Again doubling checking doesn't hurt, that size does fit with in their spec.
