You are probably going to have to do like I did in Southern Maryland. Start calling local garages. Nobody advertises the stuff and it seems like it's only available by prescription.

Other then lowering the octane rating what are the benifits of adding 1 qt of ATF to a tank of gas?

Adding ATF is an old trick as the original poster of the topic said. I think it would be better perscribed in an older carburated system & not injection systems. I think it goes along the same lines as using Marvel Mystery Oil which really did work in older cars to loosedn up stickey lifters & quiet valvetrane noise. Guys used to put it into the fuel tank, in the oil itself & even pour a teaspoon full right down the carb air horn.

I use ATF in my big truck diesel about every 100,000 miles, and it does a great job of cleaning and lubricating the injectors, but I don't think I'd have the cojones to put it in my gas tank of ANY of my cars. I'd recommend Techron, BG products, or Sea Foam. That is all.

Morey's UCL (looks like Marvel), BG 44K (smells like kerosene), and Techron have all worked well for me, jmho.

Marvel Mystery Oil. Similar. I noticed the valve train gets a little quieter with it.

It's been around forever.

MMO is amazing stuff.
I just wouldn't burn it in anything that has a catalytic converter or O2 sensor.
I put it in my old Chevy van (no cats) once in awhile. ATF might do the same thing, but I have faith in the Marvel.

Pardon me for asking but why do you get only 12 mpg? Are you that modded out that your engine chuggalugs fuel. You must be making EXXON really proud.

It is "old-school" thinking to give the gasoline some extra detergency and give a little upper cylinder lubrication. It worked especially well before the days of the catalytic convertor and admittedly, there are certainly better products now.

All I'm saying is that I add ATF without harm to the fuel systems of all three of my vehicles.

All fuel injector cleaners are basically the same (except one). They ALL use solvents of one sort or another. The only one that doesn't I'm aware of is Redline SL-1.

Read an article in a past corvette magazine about fuel injectors, and it stated that if you have a 95-96 engine then you have what I believe were called Multec fuel injectors. The article recommended against the use of any fuel injector cleaner,as it would remove a protective coating from the rotating ball in the injector.

There is a TSB (04-06-04-051a) on cleaning the injectors. This is a revision to the older TSB on cleaning, they want you to only use a GM product.
