Default Major '92 Problem! Got rearended!!

Well I bought this 92 in august. I got it for $6k. It had a few small problems, like normal, but it ran great, had no leaks and overall was in really good condition. I just fixed its 2 biggest problems- replaced the ECM and bought new tires.

Last friday night traffic on the 605 freeway was extra slow- 10-20mph, so I was in the far right lane to exit at the Florence Ave. off ramp. I was rolling at 10mph or less- moving with the flow- and CRASH! The stupid guy hit me SO FREAKIN HARD! I estimate he had to be doing at least 40mph. The CHP came and took a police report and gave me all his insurance info. Something just didn't seem right about him to me though. The police said he was not drunk.
Trying to shorten a really long story I call his insurance and they inform me that his insurance policy has been cancelled for over a year and he does not live at the address he gave and the phone numbers also are bogus! My insurance won't cover my losses so I'm going to have to sue a guy I don't know where to find! Luckily for me, providing false information on a police report is a crime so at least the police are going to be after him too.

It cost me almost $500 to get my car out of the towing company's storage lot and to the shop where I work. But I'm stuck with a badly damaged Vette, my best friend's smashed Taylor guitar that was in my car when we were hit and not enough $$ to fix everything!
Anyway if anyone can help me with anything, even finding used parts (there is quite a list of parts to replace!), please let me know.

Thanks for listening,
Steven

Oh man that sucks. I don't know how pissed I would be if that happened to me. Why won't your insurance cover it??

Sorry to hear about your car, I hope the police nab that guy. Thats just not right to do something like to someone. I had a similar accident 2 years ago with a drunk driver, I couldnt sue because my car had less than $300 worth of damage and I wasnt hurt. Oh well, hopefully you win your case.

I guess that is why it is good to get uninsured mortorist coverage and I was thinking of canceling mine to save a buck.Very sorry for your loss and I am sure when you get a list togther you can post it for some help on parts.I see a batwing would be a good start the rest looks pretty ugly.Anyone have a good Vette boneyard nearby?

HOLD IT!

Why isn't your insurance company covering your loss?? I thought they were required to do so, in a case like yours. Contact your state insurance commission and find out the facts on this. DO NOT let your insurance company bully you around.

The police should be able to come up with an address on this guy from his driver's license number as well as vehicle registration.
Good luck.

Maybe you should be suing your insurance agent?

Dang that blows...go after him, and your insurance company. If you didn't wreck it you shouldn't pay for it.

That sucker looks totalled to me though.

that sucks, dude!

I would like to know why the ins won't cover it, either!

I would get with the ins commissioners office to see if this guy has other valid insurance. Next time I am in a wreck, I am calling his insurance companies 800# to confirm coverage - BEFORE the cop leaves!!!!

I'm not an insurance expert but I'm pretty sure uninsured coverage only covers bodily injury and not property damage.
If you don't have collision insur your screwed. Finding the guy is another problem and getting him to pay is another.
Sorry about your vette....
Good luck

Yeah the reason the insurance won't cover it is I only had liability. BIG mistake..I hate learning things the hard way.

Maybe I should part out the car just to try to regain at least most of my losses. I would feel bad doing that though because the car is fixable..I hate seeing a good chevy die...

Anyone selling a '73-'75 Chevy truck 4x4 longbed?

damn.

I would pursue the bastard without insurance... it's that simple.

He is now a law breaker... and it's a law that the courts are real hard on.
