Default Mud Flap Warning

Last year I bought the Plexiglass flaps from MAM.The look real nice BUT last fall I noticed one of the front ones was starting to wear into the hood on one of the sharp edges on it .I filed it down and put a piece of velcro on the tip.I checked the rest and did not notice any wear.I have driven it a bit since then some in the rain and snow and was washing it and noticed that both the rear ones are now doing the same thing .I guess I will have to cut some off the top as it is occuring because they have no bend in them and are pretty stiff and mabey the road dirt hitting them.Luckily it is barely noticable but I will every time I walk by it now .Don't you hate it when something that only you will notice happens? It is like slow torture everytime you see it.

That sucks. Sorry to hear it.

I was going to make a joke about Yosemite Sam mudflaps but don't think you'd appreciate it right now.

Thanks for the "heads up". I might buy those and now I know a pitfall to work on.

I have the clear flaps on my 86 and have not experienced this problem. How about a pic?

Anyone have any experience with those static cling plastic paint shields? Suppose to be able to stick em on instead of flaps for stone chip protection.

I too have those same flaps on BEAST2 and agree with LT4-FUN. Only difference is mine are manufacturer's black and don't stand out as much as they would have if they had been painted body color. I was afraid to paint them because I thought stone chips would become too noticable.

I tried them on my '95 and they are OK, but don't drive in the rain with them on. I stuck in the rain and was about 20 miles from home. When I got home I noticed that I only had one left and it was about to vanish like the rest of them. That was $35 wasted.

I use to have one from Mid Amer but they no longer carry it and all the others i have checked do not have the silver with black letters. Any help would be appreciated , thanks

Actually it was on the car when I got it. I get alot of "where did you get THAT!". Wish I knew. But what a couple of guys did was buy other colors and very carefully painted them. Sorry I could't help you out more. On another thought, if you or someone you know is going to Corvettes at Carlile, they might have them there. I have never been there and hoping to go this year. I'm told they have everything you could want for a vette.

I thought Redeasysport was talking about the flaps (splashguards) that LT4-FUN and ZRWON own. Am I wrong?

I could see how the ABS guards could rub against the side of the car, but I'm surprised if the issue pertains to a flat, mud-flap that sits only inside the well.

Do the ABS guards as used by LT4-FUN and ZRWON scratch/wear into the paint?

Mine seem to be mounted lower than those pictured and the top corner is right at the lower edge of the body molding strip. Never has there been any paint damage in the area pictured by Redeasysport. If I were to remove mine I am sure there would be marks on the paint at the lower rear fender area where the flap wraps around with the molded part.
I don't worry about that because I intend to always have them on the car. Out here on the Island and the back roads on the mainland stone chips (esp on windshield) are your formal identification that you are a "local"; not a tourist, or newby Californicator moving to our Isalnd.
