service engine light

Default service engine light

every once in a while i'll be driving down the road and the service engine soon light will come on it will stay on for a few minutes then turn off...how do i find out what could be wrong? or is this a glitch?does anyone know what could be causing it?

Rob,

If your newer Vette is anything like mine, there's a computer hook-up under the dash by your right knee. When you take the black cap off you'll see two rows of holes. If you take a wire and bare both ends, turn the key on (without starting the engine) and connect the bare ends of the wires to the two upper terminals on the extreme right side of the computer hook-up. The "Check Engine" light should blink once, then pause, then blink twice. That is code 12 which indicates the computer is in the diagnotic mode. Next the light will begin to flash any stored codes. If i'm not mistaken I think it will flash each stored code three times.

Or, you can go to Autozone and they will jumper and read the code for you, no cost. Also, at one time they were giving away a free "jumper key" which is easier to use than a paperclip or wire.
