Mine broke a while back and I made my own out of stainless steel hose clamp. It has enough hardness to function well as a spring. It works like a champ and will no doubt outlast a factory one.
Yeah....mine up-n-retired on me. I bought the whole sh'bang...button and spring for like 12 bucks ...also put a new console cover on top as it was not in the best shape and did'nt feel like spending the $150 bucks on a GM replacement....I think this cover is better looking, and more comfortable to lean on while driving and much much cheaper!!!

That's an excellent idea! What size hose clamp was it? I need to repair mine, too.

I don't remember the exact size but it was the narrow ones such as are used for fuel lines. It'll probably take the largest one you can find in that narrow size to have enough length to do the job.

Please email me at julianshipp@journalist.com with the installation instructions. Sounds like an easy tech tip.
This forum is priceless. Just surfing the site during my lunch hour, I learned 2 things I was thinking about over the weekend. 1) Exhaust mufflers without having to get into headers (MagnaSS) and how to jig the spring in the console for peanuts. (hose clamp)
You people are great! Rick
