At least you're ok. Sad to see that a Vette got damaged that way, but better the car than you.

Only once has anyone in my family hit a deer. My dad was driving his work provided 93 Silverado Plow Truck(he would plow out other employees driveways if it was crappy out) and he hit a deer out in Rockford(hick town) and the deer was demolished, but it took with it the glass from the drivers headlight. I spent $20 and got him a new one and installed to surprise him.

I'd hate to hit a deer in my vette. It'd probably end up through the windshield.

We have a real problem with them here in Georgia.
I knew a guy (his brother works for me) that was killed last year by a deer hitting his Harley.
I say take we need more hunters here.

Some years back I totaled a decent '77 Nova on a deer -the deer walked away . Since then I've been lucky and been able to avoid them many times. I took a (deer) blood oath that if me or mine ever hits another, I'm gonna outfit my old van with a "killer" bumper and go hunting deer twice a day . The D#$& politicians won't let the hunters who want to kill and eat them do enough of it and keep raising the hunting fees higher and higher to boot -it's the "Bambi" syndrome, everyone thinks they're cute until they hit one. Deer are vermin and ought to be hunted almost to extinction in populated areas.

A couple of years ago, an 18-year-old girl died on the outerbelt around Columbus from a deer that came thru her windshield. The deer came from a metropark where the local animal lovers had fought to keep the state from culling the herd using sharpshooters. They finally got rid of most of them several years later after a big ruckus about the deer eating shrubs from all the rich properties around there. Typical class politics! If I were that girls' father-there wouldn't be any deer left in all of Franklin county now, except in the zoo!!

Could have been much worse. Sucks, I know. My wife's vehicle got struck by a deer the FIRST night she drove it home from work. Early Christmas present three years ago. Hadn't even made the first payment yet. Deer caused $1,600 worth of damage to the front end and passenger side door.

If anyone is interested here are a couple of links I had looked up . http://www.sav-a-life.com/default.htm http://www.hornetnorthwest.com/index.html
Deer seem to be a major problem in a lot of places though we don't encouter them much on the Los Angeles freeways where I live.
Deer sirens do not work. The Michigan State Higway Patrol put them on a number of patrol cars (they bonk a few deer each year) and the number of deer struck had no correlation between patrol cars with and without them. Save your money!

I hate deer they are clearly the one of the most dumbest animals to walk this earth. The stupid animals see you coming at night and unlike most animals which would run away they just sit there and ask you to hit them. I had an incident with a deer with my Impala SS back in 99 that did over 7k in damages. I swerved to avoid hitting a deer at highway speeds (that was already hit dead on on the other side of the divided highway and was cartwheeling through the air and landed almost in my lap) and rear ended a driver that was dumber than the deer itself.... Who stops on a highway in the slow traveling lane just to rubberneck at the accident that the deer caused in the other lane on a divided highway. Everyone knows if your going to stop on a highway you do it in the breakdown lane.

Good to see that the damage wasnt too severe. There are a lot of dear where I live, but i've never hit one. I have ran over a LOT of possums though in my Buick, as well as some other small critters. I hit a possum that was like the size of a medium size dog once, that sucked. Had to clean him off my wheel well and the side of my car.

I feel your pain and I hate 'em too. Just replaced the grill in my DD Blazer two weeks ago. I have hit deer in every car I have ever owned. I've been lucky I haven't hit one on the motorcycle or Vette. (Hope I didn't just curse myself!)
