It could have been much worse, but still, it sucks. I've only had the car a month. But, the parts are in and I have the paint codes, so in a few weeks it'll be back to better than new.
You and me both, buddy. Still have a black replacement headlight cover on my driver side from when a deer got in front me late at night on a foothills cruise. Damned thing walked away no problem, after having literally bounced off my hood and breaking the driver side headlight.
About 15 years ago, I hit a deer with a 79 Camaro. The deer jumped, and the impact was centered at the top of the windsheild. Made one hell of a noise, pushed the top in about a foot, sprayed me with glass and deer stuff. Scared the crap out of me.

Consider yourself lucky.
I had one crouch down right before I hit him with my pick-up truck. Bent up front bumper, busted headlight from the antlers and crap all over the other side.
dmorris, I was born and raised in Rocky Mount, small world!
Got 3 of them last year. An 8-pointer with the Avalanche, playing hide and seek behind a construction barrel on I-39, I won. A good size 6-pointer right between the headlights with the Ridgeline, he'll never do that again. And a doe ran into the driver's door on the Tahoe, she must have been blonde.
The hunters around here could use some more time at the practice range.
I struck one last spring...luckily not with my VETTE. I was driving my Explorer sport trac...when a group of 5 deer sprang out from the woods. I was doing 75 mph when I first spotted them.....the last deer wasn't fast enough as I luckily rolled right over it as it crouched down to avoid me. It tore the front plate off my truck....but later I found out that it affected the camber in my front end which caused my front tires to bow outward...enough that over time it caused cupping damage to my tires. I had to get new tires and an alignment this Winter, now she's good as new....I got off lucky...I see many many deer vs car mva's at work....they are not pretty....and many people end up goingto the hospital.
Hiway 17 south towards Santa Cruz Ca. 60 mph, a deer jumped the 3ft center divide and right in front of my Mustang.
The antlers disappered right under my hood and then wham.
My car was a total. The deer hit so hard that it flew back into the center divider and came back with enough force to wipe the left side of the car from headlite to the rear 1/4 panel.
Inspite of all the body damage I drove the car that way for over a year and then sold it 186k on it.
Second Mustang to be totaled in 3 years.
I ran across a whole heard of 'em, and had it shut down to about 20 miles an hour and thought I was in the clear, but one of them turned around and wanted to say "hi". I didn't even stop, I was too pist. I seen the hood was still in one piece, the headlight still worked, I didn't hear the front bumper dragging the ground, and when I shook the wheel back and forth everything felt good, so I kept going. Haven't been back down that road since. Insurance wouldn't cover it anyway (PLPD). I'm just glad that it wasn't worse, and came through the windshield. Of course when I got back to the house, I wasn't sure where the smell of s**t was coming from, me or the side of the car!!
Sorry to hear about your deer encounter though you were probably very lucky. My mother's neighbor was killed last year when he ran off the road trying to avoid a collision with a deer. I've been thinking about putting a "deer siren" on my mother's car. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they any good?
If anyone is interested here are a couple of links I had looked up . http://www.sav-a-life.com/default.htmhttp://www.hornetnorthwest.com/index.html
Deer seem to be a major problem in a lot of places though we don't encouter them much on the Los Angeles freeways where I live.
