Default Could use some heat...

Alright I've got a heater question...

So my heater no longer blows heat. I know that the water pump is cycling water through the system. When I feel the water lines going to and from the heater core the top one is extremely hot, and the bottom one is slightly less so. (I've been told that's an easy way to "test" the heater core) From what I can understand there is no reason why it should not be blowing good hot air.

A mechanic friend told me that there is a "cold air door" that might be stuck open do to a linkage failure. I guess that makes sense but if this does in fact exist, where is it?

I appreciate any suggestions...

When you turn the heater on do you hear the heater/air con. fan running?

In 85, heater will not blow heat from top vents, not sure about your year. Does that help?

Oh man, I remember a 30 degree below zero day at Ft McCoy Wisconsin. I had filled up my military diesel Blazer (CUCV) in southern, IL on the trip up to McCoy. Their fuel was not formulated for the cheesehead's cold weather. When I tried to fire that b***h up the next morning the fuel had turned to parafin. You NEED a heater in that state!

I remember having a drilled tstat in my vette in 20 degree weather. You have to keep the coolant above 140 to use the overdrive in mine...

so I had to run the a/c.

Luckily I had no jacket, just short sleeves.

I was in Montana in 30 below weather.

Turns out **** does NOT freeze before it hits the ground. What a wasted trip that was.

I have an '85 and it blows hot air out of all the vents once the car is warmed up. My overdrive wont engage until the coolant temp reaches aprox 125 degrees. Maybe we have different heating/cooling systems?

Overdrive comes on at 170ish in 84, 140 in 85, and 125ish in 86+
