Default tail light black outs suck

went on a corvette club run and lucky me was following a c-5 with black outs on the rear lights....stop and go traffic...ya know 60 mph to 20 mph in like 50 ft.........dam......I had to watch the cars in front of him because you can't see his tail lights during the day...........just a word to the wise..........if you got them.........your chances of getting rear ended are increased because at least during the day no one can see your brake lights...........and no flames please (freeway driving ) I am just trying to make a point that style isn't everything.

I wondered about that myself. They look kind of cool but I want to keep my fanny in check and my neck straight.

I have them on my 92, and I worry about that. I always tap the brakes a few times, and watch my mirror to see if people are slowing down. Then keep tapping the brakes!! I'm thinking about going to the LED's (without the blackouts) just to be safe.

That's why I'm still thinking about it. Even without the blackouts, I still have people running up on me, and makes me worry if they see the lights at all. Maybe just being paranoid..........

[QUOTE=bluepearl92] Even without the blackouts, I still have people running up on me, [QUOTE]

I sprayed mine.... and went with brighter bulbs. I have checked them out in the sun and they looked plenty bright to me....really I think if someones gonna hit me they were gonna do it anyway. Cops (State trooper) never said anything to me when I got a ticket for window tint.....Soooo I just pay the insurance every month and watch the rearveiw....

About 5 years ago, I got pulled over for blackouts... on a Civic. Cop wrote me up for, "Improper/faulty or unsafe equipment on vehicle." I wonder if they'd pull me over if I had blackouts on my Vette. I've seen many C4s and C5s here with them but I can't decide whether a cop on a bad day would wanna start **** with a young Vette owner just because he had blackouts on his car.

One of the things I love most about a Vette is the rear end with those big 4 tail lights. So after finally getting one, why would I want to cover them up?

I hear ya...I have a switch which uses all reds (including the brake light) in bright mode for running in inclement weather. It steps up 1 notch when you hit the brake also. Bright as hell i might add!!

A buddy in our F-body group was written a warning by an Ocala officer for the same thing. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but he was constantly being harassed. He's late 40's early 50's and a good driver, but his car was a full on custom.

So....we pulled the statute (for distances, and spec, etc) and did still and video shoots in both daylight and dark citing the weather (natn'l wx svx), moon and ambient lighting, distances, etc).

In the daytime, they were still visible (he had the velcro over covers for his 3rd gen) to be legal but certainly diminished. At night they were fine.

BTW, the statute in Fl. only addresses nighttime use (lol), not daytime operation

I wrote a letter to the chiefs office and mailed it with copies of the info attached. Thats was the end of his problems with OPD

Hope some of this info helps.

I have been on several of these cruises myself and will not , under any circumstances, follow anyone with this rediculous appearance mod. It's just plain asking for trouble.
