On the right is a new lower radiator hose for my 85 L88. On the left is the new one. In the middle is a nasty spring that came out of the old hose. Do I need to put it in the new one?
The spring is in there so the hose doesnt collapse causing cooling problems. New Hose should be Ok without it, but it could give you a piece of mind using it.
I wouldn't use them. Even if you did try, you would have a hell of a hard time putting it in. Besides, if you keep up with the regular maintenance of your vette, then you shouldn't have problems.
I have a 94 and the lower hose collapses when it sets. It fills back out when warmed up but I am getting a new hose soon and I hope it has the spring or if not may need to order the spring. My hose doesn't look that old but I don't want to have any problems.
