Bose System Compared

it would be nice to have the balance feature but I'm happy. I know there is much better out there but I'd rather save my dollars for other parts.

Personally, I think Bose equipment in general has been extremely well marketed, because its reputation far exceeds its performance.
With respect to it being decade-old technology, the Cerwin Vegas in my living room, which I bought at Circuit City's scratch-n-dent department 27 years ago for a coupla hundred $ are leagues above any Bose equipment I've ever heard -- old or brand new. And the cheap-azzed stereo I cobbled together with a basic CD deck from Crutchfield and a coupla well-used Jensen Tri-Axial speakers in a previous vehicle a decade ago would eat the Bose's lunch.
Frankly, I just don't understand the hype about Bose gear. It's not awful, but it certainly doesn't exceed mediocre, at best, IMHO.
Fortunately, the music that the LT1 makes through the B&B Triflow system is far superior to anything that comes out of the speakers, so except when on a long trip, the Bose in my Vette stays powered-down.
Be well,

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
wholeheartedly!
Besides having a system that will pull in radio stations will when it pleases, play a CD when it pleases, ejects a CD when it pleases, have an amp that will power up when it pleases, I guess there isn't too much wrong with them.
If the bose is the best system you've ever heard you obviously must have only had audiovox cassette stereos.

I too can't understand why there isn't a balance control on the Bose system.. Drives me crazy since I also have one bad ear
, doctors say it's due to 24 years of sirens and air horns on the job.. As for Bose, it's OK, if you go to high end audio forums you'll see it's considered low end with a high price tag and I totally agree. But it's fine for my vette, rather hear the roar of my vette, to me that is the sweetest sound
Album has an alien that looks like something out of The Abyss on a surf board catching some mystic waves.
P.S. Aminnich mentioned Buddy Holly - B.H. IS A GOD!

Problem is every system here is at least 10 years old and most likley older.
When it breaks, it is extreme $$$$$$$$$$ to fix also. Thats the real problem.
Upgrades are also very tough w/o removing the whole system??!! which pretty much puts the C4 bose in a class by itself.

...obviously, time has passed it by and any reasonably coherent configuration of modern components will eat it for breakfast. This is true of almost all mid-80s consumer electronics - not specific to the Bose. Those of us who are staying stock (in my case for restoration reasons) find that it does okay if you don't push it too hard - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" sounds pretty darn good.

Bose is a lot of name, but not a lot of audio performance. For the money it costs to repair/replace, you can do a whole lot better on the aftermarket tip.
