Been awhile - got a problem I'm researching - my '92 Black Rose Coupe has been waxed at least once a month (Maguiars Gold Class), but now I've noticed that the paint is doing a major fade job on the right side of the back deck - looks like the clear coat is getting milky - the car does sit in the sun in my driveway for a good portion of the day. My question - websearching has shown that there was some sort of recall on '92's because fo clear coat problems - is this the same thing as has happened to me? Hate to think I've gotta go to the paint shop because factory applied paint does this - anyone have this problem - comments? :mad
PS - No, the car has never been hit or repaired, so it is not a repaint issue!
I had that problem when I bought my '93. Same color and all. Fortunatly, I had the car repainted. I never could get a real good shine, where I could see reflections of the clouds during the day. It sucks
If it was the Factory Paint, the odds of it happening in just certain areas would be unlikly usless it was just the tops. If it were just the tops of the vehicle it's usually due to the direct sunlight on the top serfaces(the side pannels cast differant light at differant angles). If it's just in sertain body pannels it could be because of the vehicle being repainted...The wax that has been used is a good wax and should have no ill effects to your paint.
Waxing does squat on clear coat. You are better off to get some rubbing compound and polishing compound. Go to Walmart (of all places) and in the car section by the touch up paints look for 3M rubbing compound and polishing compound. Heck there is even pictures of a C4 corvette on each bottle . This stuff is awesome and I rarely loose to Zaino guys at car shows, plus it is half the price.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but according to The Corvette Black Book, the previous owner handed you a line of :bs
According to the book, Black Rose was an offering beginning in 1992. You should be able to get the paint code off of the car and then tell what the original color was.
